Hi! I'm about to bring home my first ferret (and soon after a friend for him!). His name is Winston and he's about 4 months old. Right now he's on Iams Dry Kitten Food (horrible! I know) and I want to switch him to whole prey with Evo ferret in the mean time. So, I'm here to learn and hopefully get a mentor when he gets home! I've tried feeding him a pinkie (I work at the pet store that he's at...) but he just looked at me like "Ummmm, Mom? That's not food!" lol. I also have a Border Collie mix (Nollie), a pair of sugar gliders (Tucker and Ella), and a Thoroughbred filly (Impish). -Alanna

Hi and welcome Alanna and a special hug and snuggle to Winston Please feel free to prowl the site, read threads, ask questions, get involved. Everyone's friendly and there's a lot of knowledge here. Was this a live or frozen pinkie...either way, they don't provide much entertainment. The next stage if your letting your little one hunt usually kicks in their prey drive. Unfortunately, the next line is ... he killed it instantly....now how do I get him to eat it Frozen pinkies are a good start because they don't have fur. The easiest way to get him to start on them is to play tug (can get messy but they're small) Usually, once they get some "bits" into them they will eat them. The nice thing about kits...they have to sample everything Unfortunately, it's also the thing that gets them into big trouble too . When you finally get Winston home fill out the application for a mentor and we will see what we can do for you Oh...by the way....we do expect pictures of your new little furbaby ciao

Welcome! We have all been first time ferret owners, so you're not alone!
Pics are encouraged!! Of all your furbabies!
As for the pinkie, you could try chopping it up an pouring some oil on it.

Hi, and welcome to the forum I can't wait to see pics of your new baby boy when you get him, along with whoever he gets for a friend! The playing tug, or even chopping it and covering it with oil are both good suggestions.
