Good reminder about buckling in the carriers wenmister! I do that every time the carriers go into the car, even just to the vet. I don't like the idea of having to hit the brakes in an emergency, and having the carriers flying through the car!

Awesome this is great info!!! I put a shoebox like that in my carrier before but it was such a pain securing it and then taking it out to clean etc. I never thought of the idea of putting in 2 boxes so you can put 1 inside the other, this is such a great idea!! Now, just to make sure, what size of pet carrier is this? This is what I use and the boxs fit snug and perfect in them! PetMate Double door carrier, size medium www.overstock.com/Pet-Supplies/Pe....&adtype=pla&kw={keyword}You can buy these in store at pets mart and pet co. They come in a variety of colors. I have seen them in both the cat and dog section. Whats great is the double doors, the door on the top makes it so easy to get ferrets in and out of the carrier. I've had mine for years, and its all I use. Especially since they fit the shoe box litter box in them so well! If you ever come to a show be sure to let me know, I can show you how things are done and what to do

Good reminder about buckling in the carriers wenmister! I do that every time the carriers go into the car, even just to the vet. I don't like the idea of having to hit the brakes in an emergency, and having the carriers flying through the car! Please also remember when transporting wee one in their travel accomodations.....don't buckle them in in the front passenger seat. If the airbag goes off it will kill them. If the impact of the airbag doesn't the chemicals will. Always tie them in the back seats. There was only once a ferret got to ride shotgun and that was Mad Max. He was on his last few hours and he got to ride shotgun to the vets. He rode the whole way with his front paws on the side of the litter box holding his head up so he could see out the window and feel the wind in his face (picture your little dog with their face out the window and you would have Mad Max). Those are my last memories of him on that day, I cherish that last hour. He was so happy despite the pain he was in. As I said, normally my wee ones do not ride shotgun, it's not safe ciao

The bottom line re shows is that they (dog, cat, ferret, etc) are all an ego trip for the owner. Unless the standards the animals are (supposedly) judged on penalize or disqualify colors and conformation known to produce genetic defects and various health problems, it's highly unlikely that shows can or do promote breeding for better health and longevity.
To the contrary, the breeders will breed the winning animals who may or may not have good genetics. I've seen no indication that ferret shows have done anything but encourage the breeding of fancy colors known to produce multiple genetic and health problems, along with features which are a caricature of polecat type.

with regards to colours in England we I guess are the most boring our classes are albino, polecat ( don't matter if its light or dark its all in one class ) sandy ( if its brown its sandy ) and silver light or dark same class ( some shows occasionally have a silver mitt class ) any other type or colour of ferret goes in the any other colour class ( these range from roaned out to ferrets with three white toes and a white patch on the tail or any colour in between ) and yes any other colour has been known to win shows ! why its simple over here colour is not the be all and end all but body structure is as are good jaws/ teeth ( in other words can they do the job nature intended them to do ?) show organisers gave in and added on all the fancy classes I see the lists of classes grow yearly to accommodate the new colours that pop up and of course this means more revenue for the shows ( the more classes the more entries the more in search of ribbons ) in my day years ago shows were simply a social event for like minded people ( mainly working folks ) to have a day out a good laugh and spin a few yarns about how many rabbits they had bagged on there last trip out take care bye for now Bev
