My 1 year old yorkie has always been given raw meat on occasion, usually raw chicken (without any bones). Yesterday, he ate 2 chicken thighs, bones and all. And today I noticed a big chunk of poop stuck to the end of his anus. I'm not sure if its stuck on the end, or if it's actually lodged in there. He doesn't seem to be in pain, but he is definitely annoyed. He was squatting earlier like he was trying to poop. I put him in a warm bath and a big chunk of it fell off, but the rest wouldn't budge. He is also not fond of me going near it; he kept snapping at me (he's normally not aggressive at all). I unfortunately don't have a muzzle, so I'm kinda scared to touch it. Should I be concerned? Also, what could have caused this?

Wrap him in a towel and cover his face so you can get a better look and pull it out. Dogs eat bones whole sometimes even though they shouldn't.

Eating the bone shouldn't have caused it, unless he had too much? Can you put him in a bath and soak it off?

Ok, here's the deal. A dog fed the occasional meat meal without bone will not be able to properly digest a weight bearing bone. So, he's trying to poop out bones. I agree with weloveourweasels, wrap him and have a look, this is a two person job. I don't agree with pulling or prodding. He should be able to pass this on his own but I would be giving him some pumpkin about a tbsp. He will probably get some loose stools but it should move the bone shards out. Some raw feeders will not feed weight bearing bones. I do, but...big but here....my dog has eaten raw all his life. He can crunch through and digest a venison leg bone and an adult sheep skull. I would not feed weight bearing bones to a dog who never has eaten bone before. A good bone to start with, chicken backs, with or without flaps but make sure if you feed a back that you feed meat with it, it's not a meal on it's own. Do not feed chicken legs, thighs, turkey legs or thighs. If you feed necks, make sure you go at it with a hammer first. Smash the bones so that he doesn't swallow the neck and choke ciao
