I feed my switched two whole mice and rats on ocasion and plan on getting duke and Boo onto them as well to help even out their diet.
I think Boo is still to iffy to say a graduation. He's doing nicly right now but he's had one hard crash that I had to do a restart on. He's also hesitant about bone that dosn't come in chicken feet form.
Duke I would say is almost perfect. I haven't had the chance to let him in on a mouse meal yet but he's eating everything else. He's quite amusing to watch eat, he shakes his head so violently at times he'll throw the food clear out of the cage. So far his record is a frogs leg at 3 feet.
Are there some tricks to introducing whole? My Switched pair were more than happy for their first whole meal. My girl had an obsession with eating all the furr off of the cats toys and imediatly de-furred and at a mouse without hesitation, and my Boy thought the tails were the best thing on earth.
I've heard some people introduce them to a live mouse to try and help trigger the hunt and eat instinct.

You can try the whole hunt thing...I've got enough fuzzes that eat prey that if they don't do a clean kill that I can pull someone else to do the job and if they kill and won't eat it then I've still got someone to eat it too . It can and does work, just not always (like anything always works with fuzzies : I'm busy trying to convince Minion that I don't have to take the fuzz off the rats for him to eat them I've got no problem keeping you on until you're comfortable with Boo...he is a bit of a beggar but I think he's probably found himself. Is he still getting kibbles? ciao

I've completly taken all kibble out of his menu since Friday. Before that he'd have only lightly breaded meal in the morning and a soupie meal at night. I admit he's been doing a lot better over the past few days. He's loosing some of his food shyness and wiggling his way into the crazyness that's feeding time. I've watched him eat some cornish hen ribs just today and getting active over all around feeding time. (A.K.A. begging) If hunting fails my little girl is a supurb cereal killer when it comes to mice. It takes her about 3sec to kill one and will take out every mouse in sight until there all placed in a neat little pile.

My Napoleon was like your wee girl. He was awesome, he taught a lot of my other ones how to kill and would always finish the job if the newbie was a failure. I don't have a good teacher anymore...I'm sure I will find another one some day. I'm thinking that maybe Minion, but at the moment he's too scatterbrained to do the job effectively. Yay Boo,...you get in there and get those choice meatzes. Show them how it's done. He's doing great ciao

Sorry I haven't been on in so long. Crazy busy latly.
Boo is doing good and I've started to cut back on the soupie meals. Without the easyness of the soup to fall back on he's eating a lot more at regular meals. He even took time to join in on the super rare jerky treats i don't give them often beacuse of the cost. He really took a liking to those.
He's going through his full switch perk up right now and even did a winter coat, he's still shabby but no where near the scrawny pathetic little ragamuffin he was. The goats milk has been helping him a lot, when he first showed up you could see his bones but now he's got enough meat built up to fully cover him.
Since the big food season is starting up in the stoors hopefully he'll get a chance to get a bigger selection built up. Hopefully I'll be able to snagg a christmass goose. (yes, one stoore around me sells them in the season.)
I even got the good news that a hunter firiend has some fresh venison kidnys, heart, and liver for me.

That is fantastic news. Your wee Boo sounds like he's moving along nicely. He may have done things at his own pace but he's doing it just the same. I've noticed some really odd meats showing up in the meat dept too....keep an eye open for quail..sometimes they get them really cheap in pairs (basically 2 for 1). I haven't seen any goose yet, but noticed duck and rabbit (luckily for me, I've got a supplier who doesn't charge me an arm and a leg ;D ;D) ciao

Explorer crashed and took out all my bookmarks, took a while to re-find this place.
I've removed the night time soup from the daily meal plan and Boo is completly fine now with every meat. He took to a new meat (Turky necks) with great joy. He even got into the cat food and simply shoved it all out of the bowl and left it uneaten. I have to say he's switched.

I'm sorry about the whole computer thing....they're great when they're working but not so much when they break down It does sound to me like your sweet Boo is switched. Do you want to make up a week's menu and see where things are at and graduate you? ciao

So far my average schedual is Mondays- Morning/salmon Evenings/soup Tuesdays- Morning/Cornish hen Evenings/asorted organs Wensdays- Morning/Chicken wings Evenings/Chicken legs and thighs Thursdays- Mornings/porknecks Evenings/beef heart Fridays- Morning/lamb Evening/Frogs leggs Saturdays- Morning/mice Evening/chicken feet Sundays- Morning/Rat Evening/-changes depending on whats most avaiable- Paycheck this weekend hopefully means I'll get a good batch of mice and rats to work on getting Boo and Duke a little more confortable with the mice and Rat meals. They haven't figured out how ungodly amazing they are unlike my other two who go completly nutz for them.

Minion hasn't got it about the whole rat thing either At one point all he would eat was prey, now....the little pain he is will only eat mice (prey wise anyway) He's the laziest eater I've ever met. If he doesn't have to chew he won't Anyway, your schedule looks good, of course you've got raw feeding with your other wee ones down Great job . You stuck it out, managed to convince wee Boo that raw food was awesome....great job . You know that I'm available as is the list if you have any questions you need only ask. Congratulations...you graduated In a couple of days I will shut down the thread but you can review it at any time (just can't post to it ) to refresh your memory. Give your wee ones a big hug. They did fantastic ciao
