I was cooking a turkey today with fresh sage. I held a sprig up to Finn and he sniffed it once, and grabbed it and ran off with it! He stashed it in one of the beds and later slept on it ;D
So, he likes the smell of sage apparently... he did NOT nibble on it or eat any of it though.

I tried vanilla essence when I washed my bedding (I put it in during the last rinse) and it did nothing...

I'm glad to hear they are enjoying it so much ;D Old dead leaves, anything like that usually goes over well, simply because of the new smells. Also, branches, etc. work well as things to drag around, wrestle over, and sniff. Branches, eh? I wonder how it would work with some drift wood from a lake ... lots of smells from that. Also, instead of using dixie cups, would toilet paper rolls work? They are cardboard, so they should absorb scent pretty well. Just a thought!

I had heard somewhere that toilet paper rolls aren't recommended for ferrets, because they could get their heads stuck inside and be hurt. I kinda think it unlikely mine would do this, but I avoid the toilet paper rolls anyways, just to be safe.

Toilet paper rolls would be OK, as long as it's 100%, closely supervised (kind of like plastic bags).
The danger with TP rolls (and I've had it happen), they try to crawl through & it gets stuck around their ribs. I was there to rip it off. I still let them play with TP rolls, but only when I'm right there, watching them like a hawk.
