What are some nice smelling scents or flavours that are ferret safe? I saw a post in a thread by Bev(Crazy lady) ((sorry if i got that wrong!)) where she said she used vanilla to kind of train her ferrets so vanilla = sleeping area and not pooping area. And I thought that was a GREAT idea. Nice smelling ferrets, nice smelling bedding and a cleaner house! (hopefully) But I was wondering what some other scents/flavours would be safe and nice for ferrets to smell Maybe something that I could get as a essence AND a detergent for their bedding so I don't have to dump food flavouring in my mums brand new washing machine something soothing and calming and is available as something other than an E/O sorry if this is in the wrong area!

I just add a dab onto the bedding as I put it in their sleep spots. You could always use a herbal infusion in the washing mashine. You would use it in the rinse water. One thing to keep in mind, a herbalist told me that most carnivores do not like many of the mints...now I found that my guys don't mind catnip or spearmint (which grows wild in their play area). I don't have peppermint, but they seem to like sage and lavender. At least Napoleon used to like to roll in it when we used to go on our walks. ciao

they don't like mints? how odd..
I was thinking maybe cinnamon, almond, coconut or vanilla. they are all easy to come by and i could put little bags of the scent in the cupboard where I keep their bedding

Vincent's favourite herb to roll in while playing in the herb garden was lemon balm ;D

Lemon balm? I have not heard of that. I was thinking of making a kind of dig box with a few different cuttings of plants in there for them to sniff and play with etc but I'm not sure what plants are safe and what ones aren't

I put some mint and coriander in there as well as some rosemary. They love the dirt and they're flicking it everywhere which my mum hates Tomorrow I will go into the garage and find a giant storage container we have with a lid and use that instead and put a hole in the side with a tube for them. I think I will try and give vanilla bedding a shot... I can use pods in the cupboard with their spare bedding and then essence everywhere else

I'm glad to hear they are enjoying it so much ;D Old dead leaves, anything like that usually goes over well, simply because of the new smells. Also, branches, etc. work well as things to drag around, wrestle over, and sniff.

That's great that they're having so much fun. With these little ones, it's not how expensive the toy is, but sometimes how imaginative and simple it is. Ferrets love to dig, it's just a matter of keeping the digging material interesting and safe ciao

Normally i don't bother with store bought toys! I generally hunt op shops for them instead. I've only had success with like two toys that i've bought and I've had four of one of them and one of the other
