I had asked my local meat department about possibly getting in some organs, they finally called back today, I can get heart in 60 pound boxes, or liver in 30 pound. That's a lot more than I need, or would use before it went bad, not to mention I couldn't even fit it in my freezer. So online I go, at least I can get a variety of organs this way.

Do you have any ethnic markets? I found pig hearts rather cheap there. I get liver at my supermarket (walmart, publix, sweetbay).

Lol, there's barely any ethnic people up here, much less a market. There's two locally owned grocery stores and that's it, the worst part is I bet I could find more options across the border in Canada (bigger city), but bringing meat across is a no-no. Liver is the only organ I can find, the chicken gizzards sometimes have other organs in them, but turkey is gizzard only. But beef, chicken, turkey liver all available, just absolutely no heart, kidney, or anything else.

Can you buy freeze dried hearts or organ in the pet stores?

You guys are funny. No pet store. And when we did have one, they didn't stock hardly any dog/cat treats, they had some ziwipeak ones I checked out but they were like 3 years expired. Yeah, I live in a tiny town, in the middle of nowheresville.

Yeah I have gotten some WEIRD looks asking or talking about meat to feed my animals. I mean, who the heck would do that. I think it's fairly likely I am the only raw feeder in town. It took me years to get my grocery store to carry anything with "greens" in the name (ie collard/turnip/mustard) for my iguana. I buy all my cats canned food online, and until less than a year ago, ordered the dogs kibble too, now there's a gardening/feed store who carries TOTW so at least I can buy that local. I could drive out of town but that wouldn't guarentee I could find what I needed and would be a lot more than $20 in shipping fees.

Well I don't like the idea of feeding supplements to replace the real thing so I sucked it up and made my order, I'm glad the ferrets love raw 'cause my checkbook don't, you know? I ordered chicken, turkey, and pork heart, some rabbit and duck pieces, rabbit heads, a different size quail then I have, some beef kidney, another whole rabbit, and some chicken necks (haven't seen those at my store in months). I haven't even tried rabbit yet with my crew, or duck so hopefully they like them. My freezer is going to get cramped I think. Gonna be close anyways, I'll need to organize it better now.

Good luck with the rabbit and duck! I'd love to order from hare today or rodent pro, but it is sooo expensive

It is definately expensive, but mostly those dang shipping costs which is why I am trying to stock up as much as possible, hopefully I won't need to make another order for several months. I was going back and forth on a couple other things from hare today but wanted to keep it under $100 and mainly just needed the heart and kidney anyways.

Got my goodies today! Rock solid frozen. 3 day shipping, I figured they'd be thawed enough I could break stuff apart into smaller bags. Nope. So my fridge is full of hearts, kidney and duck/rabbit pieces. I thought the pieces was going to be like legs, breast, etc like chicken pieces at the grocery store, not whole skinned animal run through the bandsaw. So good side is there's organs, bad part is the chunks are too big and I need to chop them all up. There was a small hunk of rabbit and duck then I set aside to try on them tonight/tomorrow. I ordered a small whole rabbit and it's HUGE! It's 2x the size of the one I already have so I really need some way to chop that up somehow too.

Well the duck and rabbit thawed just enough for me to chop them up, so got that done and all my fingers are still here! ;D
Some of the hearts and liver are thawed enough to chop so going to do that tonight as well, don't want to mess with them fully thawed and gooey if I can avoid it. Saturday is going to be a major freezer rearrange.
On the huge plus side, I fed a leg and another small rabbit chunk to my cat and she ate it! Awesome. Ferrets got some as well but they still had some meat left from earlier and only one was interested right off the bat. My crew doesn't seem terribly picky, I'd bet it'll get eaten tonight.

Good luck with the beef kidney ;D That's one of the few meats ALL of mine refuse! Others seem to like it though, so hopefully you've got some of them ;D

Yeah hopefully mine take to all the new meats, if not I have plenty of ground venison left and figured I could mush that with organs once a week to make them eat it. I left a little of most organs out to try on them.
Anyways it's now 12 in the morning and everything but the chicken necks are chopped and bagged! Hooray! My hands ache and are so dry from washing them and my knife/cutting board over and over. They are not going to feel good tomorrow. Also my hands STINK like blood. Ick.
James earlier asked if this was all going to fit. "Of course!" I said. Started to get a little worried, drug a 5 gallon bucket full of meat down to the freezer and it fits! But there's not much room for much else, maybe a couple frozen pizzas and that's it. But I shouldn't need to buy much meat for quite a while.

I know what you mean by freezer space The fuzzums get the big freezer downstairs, we get the above the fridge one for us If they don't take to it, try mixing in a little pumpkin, along with about 1 tsp heavy cream per ferret. It's the ONLY way I could get mine eating organ meats willingly for the first year
