Billy
I remember the day I brought you home as if it was yesterday.
A shaking bundle of dirty fur with nothing much to say ,
Your breeder called you the runt and said you would surely die,
But I saw love and promise in those little dark brown eyes,
You sat in the palm of my hand and whimpered all the way home,
I whispered to you softly and said don't worry you wont be alone,
Sophie my cross breed terrier soon became your mum,
Her parson Russell puppy became her special chum,
Many nights I sat with you forcing you to eat ,
But soon you began to blossom and then you found your feet,
I introduced you to ferrets these soon became your friends,
They taught you the art of hunting for you this was pleasure something you never wanted to end,
For nearly nine long years you have worked with me always by my side,
In the fields I was the blind man and your nose it was my guide ,
And when the work was over as I crawled into my bed,
you would always be beside me on the pillow next to my head ,
My heart has been torn open and the tears sting my eyes,
For my billy boys gone hunting in the fields up in the sky,
No more will I feel your head as i go to sleep at night,
I know you tried to stay with me I saw your mighty fight ,
But lymphoma took you from me there was nothing you could do,
A special heart stopped beating one which was loyal tender and true,
I miss you darling billy boy you brought such joy into my life,
Hunt on my little man and catch my kisses every night,
For I wont stop thinking of you even though your gone,
The love will last for eternity and go on and on and on.
your broken hearted mum and brother Ben missing you every day xx
