Raw fed stools are a good bit wetter than kibble fed. That's normal. And blood in the stool will generally show up as blackish and tarry, unless it's an injury to the lower bowel(generally doesn't happen with raw bone), then it will be frank blood. The colour and consistency will also change from meat to meat. I'd also be careful of mixing raw and kibble. Some ferrets do not take well to it. Upset tummies, and diarrhea can result. Others, it doesn't seem to bother at all.

The mix of kibble and raw seemed to be upsetting his stomach, so I just switched to giving him only raw. Unfortunately, he now thinks that only the broth of his raw soup is edible, even though he was eating everything except the bones a week ago. Oh well. He'll come around when he's hungry enough.

Don't leave him too long. That's one of the problems with switching a carnivore. They can suffer from something called hepatic lipidosis. Fatty liver disease. Unlike cats, however, ferrets can seem to repair the liver when food is obtained again.

Thanks, Sherry. Good to know. I won't let him go too long. I know he's hungry, but he's just being stubborn. If he hasn't eaten enough by tomorrow, I'll give him a bit of kibble. No need to starve. That's actually the exact opposite of what I want. LOL

Why not try making up a raw mush, and spoon feed it to him? While licking it up, he has no choice but to get some og the ground as well

I've been making him soup, but I haven't tried spoon feeding it. I'll give it a shot, thanks.

I feed commercial raw to my dog and ferret. I buy from caseys hidden pantry online. they have a variety of freeze dried foods and they actually have ferrets and are familiar with the horrors of insulinoma. Their prices are lower than others and they are really nice. I like Stella & chewys freeze dried (96% meat, bones and organs, 4% vegetable) and wysong archetypal 1 i think is still the best freeze dried raw out there. Wysong is 99% meat, bones and organs, 1% veg. I feed dry (leave it in his "dry food" bowl) and also I rehydrate and give it as a soup. I have been unsuccessful with having him eat raw chicken wings or wing tips (to keep teeth clean) and he doesn't like n bones. So I brush his teeth a few times a week (he actually enjoys having his teeth brushed now-the little freak).
