Believe it or not, he took losing Vincent better than losing his Sinnead. However- we lost the three within a year of one another Lucrezia has since bonded with another group.

So sad!! I think people, in general, give animals so little credit in intelligence and feelings. Thanks for sharing this...and so sorry for all your losses!

your story brought tears to my eyes, and then I had Paul read it, (he's sniffLing). I've lost a few people in my life, but somehow losing Ponce was the hardest.

I understand completely what you are saying poncesmom. I think it because these wee ones rely on us for everything, in many ways just like a very young child. And the corresponding loss is very difficult.

That is why we always try to talk people out of splitting up bonded pairs, trios etc. Also why we try to find workarounds for those looking to rehome.

And that is when one is more likely to follow another. When they pass, and all they know is the friend simply goes missing odds of a horrible spiral to death is drastically increased. We saw it. The affected ferret simply curls up, and refuses to eat or drink. They basically suicide. Not saying it WILL happen, but the odds are increased. But when they are permitted to view the body, most will go through a grieving process and then start to heal. Boris happened to be one of those who refused to accept Sinnead's death. And by refusing to accept it, we almost lost him.

I had two kits and about a yr later added another. They were all raised together. I did not let each other see bodies and they did fine. My thinking..... How many family members death would we like to experience? None. It is torture for us . Think about the last ferret standing..... How many deaths will he have to be subject to with our thinking it is better. I think we should provide distractions ---get creative and provide some new and interesting memories at this time. Yes it will take some time out of our daily schedules.I don't want something morbid be forever stuck in my ferrets psyche. Will say no more. People can do as they wish . I know what I will do and what I can handle. Just my point of view
