So I am 99.9 percent positive that my fuzzies have ear mites and I really don't like the idea of pumping them full of chemicals if I don't have to. I have only found one remedy in a pet store that says it treats ear mites in ferrets but sounds rediculously dangerous and I don't really trust something that you can find in the cat department.... I would love to hear what works for people personally as this just puts my mind at easy a little more. I want my kids feeling better as soon as I can!!

Thornits Ear Powder. works great! www.thornitearpowder.comDirections for use on ferrets: Do not remove wax from the inner ear canal before using. Any excess moisture, remove with cotton swab. Take a tiny brush for painting and dip into the bottle. Lightly brush the powder around the inner ear but not in the ear hole (canal). gently massage the ear with your fingers from the outside. use once a day. When the brown wax starts to move, stop treating. This means the mites are dead and the wax will come away. it says to use once a week ( if you have ferrets with recurring mites) to prevent reinfestation. But I use once a month and it works fine. I have not seen them again.

Thank you, I will definitely check that out! I've heard that you should also treat the tail as they tend to sleep with their tails close to their heads...is it okay if they ingest some of the powder? That is one of my biggest concerns with treating them with anything, especially since one ferret loves to lick her brother's ears

People on here have suggested olive oil before. Squeeze a little olive oil in their ears with a cotton ball, message their ears to work it in, then wipe away any debris on the part of the ear you can see. They will also lick each others ears afterwards, which will help as well ;D I use an ear cleaner made by Animals' Apawthecary that is made up of mostly apple cider vinegar and olive leaf (I use it the same way I mentioned above) When Bane (our roommates cat) moved in, Sari had the black crusty itchy ears that ear mites cause No one else seemed to have it, but I treated everyone just in case for a few days with the ear cleaner. Also make sure to wash their bedding while treating. Hope this helps
