With everything bad happening lately I want to try and put my mind and energy towards doing something good for Naobi. If you've read the thread on the health forums she suffered some brain damage from seizures/high temp during an ear infection that became systemic.
What I'm looking for are ways to enrich her life. She's blind, she's deaf and has some brain damage. I do notice slight improvements in her but we don't know how much function she'll regain. So I'm looking for new ideas.. I read an article about scent maping which is where you use essential oils along the base boards of your walls so they can tell where they are at. Different wall= different oil. I think I may try this to help her get a better grasp on where she's at if Im letting her out to exercise.
I know she loves her tubes, but she doesnt recognize/understand them anymore so she wont go into them. She's never been big on stashing/playing with toys and she doesnt recognize her treats anymore (ferretone/olive oil/n-bones) So I'm pretty clueless on what I can do for her. I don't think her life is terrible, she's become extremely bonded to us, but she sleeps alot.. when we wake her up she runs around the kitchen/dinning room area, gets a drink, checks things out.. we feed her and usually she goes right back to sleep. We do still syringe feed her but she will eat some off a spoon, she'll drink now on her own which is a huge improvement.. we don't have to give her subQ fluids or give her water through the syringe.
She also right now isnt with the other ferrets, tasha and vaeda wont accept her back. My second play group *little kids* will tolerate her just fine but Meepo tries to play with her and Naobi gets really upset, hisses and screams at him. Some of her old cage mates are just fine with her so we do let them sniff her over but she mostly just ignores them So you can see from the situation its a little rough to come up with idea's for her but I'm hoping I can find little things to make her life better no matter how small. I've got a play pen set up for her so she can be safe when we are not home/asleep ( though she ends up in our bed 95% of the time at night) I'll take a picture of the playpen set up tomarrow and any idea's for improving it too are welcome.
I think scent driven things will be the key for her, I just want to make her life the best it can be while she's with us.
