I was wondering about how often should a ferret be bathed and when using a bath tub about how high should the water be for them?
Since I use a bath tub for bathing I've only been puting it up to barely towards his shoulder for now. Since i am not to sure how high the water is allowed to be.

Never unless caked in poo or something gross that can't be rinsed with water. Ferrets bathe themselves otherwise. If a bath is needed then water should be 102°

Agreed....never unless they get into a battle in the litter box or get themselves into something really disgusting. I don't even bathe mine after they've had a mud bath...they clean themselves up. The more you bathe them the more they stink as their bodies go into overdrive trying to reproduce the oils that you just washed down the drain. ciao

Same here. While I do frequently put water in the tub for them to play in, it's never very much(leave the far end of the tub dry), I only give a shampoo bath when really mucky and it won't come off with a plain water bath.

I give my guys a plain water bath once a week just to get the dirt and dust off of them. Afterwards I use a spray on conditioner. I've only once ever used shampoo.

When I bought my first ferret back in 1997, I bought some ferret shampoo too just in case they needed a bath. Many years and many ferrets later, it is still in the cupboard unopened!

It's funny....whenever someone turns in a ferret ...I always seem to get a bottle of ferret shampoo that and a bottle of ferret descent I finally had so many bottles of ferret shampoo that I started bathing the dog in it It works not to badly for the dog ciao

LOL this reminds me of a funny scene I saw in Petco the other day...
A lady was in the ferret section with her 2 daughters, one about 6 years old and the other looked maybe 8. They were buying litter, ferret shampoo, and the Mom was looking at some of that deodorizing spray that you spray on the ferret.
The Mom says "Hmm, should we get some of this for our ferret?" The 8 yr old daughter grabs it and says (very cheeky) "No, I don't think she should get it because I don't want to kill her. Do you want to kill her Mom?"
She may have exaggerated a little but I like her style ;D ;D ;D

If my ferret needs bathing I do it in the kitchen sink or a plastic dish pan in the tub and rinse a couple times to remove all soap. Its been about a year.

I was trying to think when the last time it was that I bathed a ferret. It was little Lady Calypso. She had spinal cancer and required to be "wiped" up regularly for her to retain her dignity. I'm considering doing this for Captain Jack as he's suffered a saddle thrombosis (heart problems ), so has a tendency to drag himself. ciao

Roman got a bath last year after a day at the chilli cook off held in town and every body just had to stroke him and we wandered the dirty city sidewalks. Usually a new kid will get a bath when first arriving. And that's the last bath they get. Its amazing all the shampoos, conditioners, deodorizers that come with a new ferret. I just cleaned out the bath cabinets and threw out over a dozen bottles of the junk! Sure makes me realize the horrible impact kibble has on ferrets. Unless the ferret becomes incontinent or extremely sickly they never get another bath!
Outdoor romps in dewy grass and dirt digs keep my guys smelling earthy clean!
