My oh-so-loving Fiance bought me Ferrets for dummies 2nd edition. I was reading all last night, and really want to pick it back up, it's so interesting. Did anyone else buy this book before getting a fuzzy? How helpful was it for you, if you did infact read it, before you went to get your fuzzy? Thanks

It's a very good book that I think every ferret owner should have. I also like . I had fuzzies before the book was written. I also like Vickie McKimmeys's Book "Ferrets" from the Animal Planet Pet care series.

It's a good recommended read for anyone either getting, or who has ferrets already! And no- we wound up getting Boris long before I'd even heard of it ;D

I have the Animal Planet book and I love it, I need to get the Ferret for Dummies one tho. The Animal Planet one has a section on feeding raw and why its better. Plus, this pics make you go Awwwww!

I got mine after I got fuzzies...it was a ferret bible for me but I had the first edition, I now have the second edition as well as thankfully some of the information has been updated. It should be a must read for just about anyone who's interested in getting a ferret. I have to laugh because I've got about 4 or 5 of them kicking around the house as some of the ferrets that were turned in came with a copy. Too bad their humans hadn't read the book before getting the ferret I've also sent it with ferrets who had been adopted out of here. ciao

I heard it was the best book for ferrets out there. I read it before I got my first ferret. And everything else I could get my hands on but I think it was the best one I read . That, and this site, have been my best sources.

I've had the book for 24 hours, and am on chapter 3. I keep underlining and marking paragraphs to go and read later and putting little sticking notes on the pages. I'm being thorough. My Fiance keeps starring at me as I do it, and I swear he thinks I'm crazy for all the work I'm putting into reading the book, and marking things I want to easily find later if needed.

Don't feel bad, getting a ferret was my SOs idea but I ended up reading the books and researching on the net. He looked at me like that. With time though he will love them just as much. :-)

He likes ferrets, but I retain information faster, and usually study about a new animal 10 times harder then I would study for an exam at school. So I get to do all the reading, and write everything he needs to know down... But, I think I may force him to read the book.

It's probably a good idea. The more shared knowledge the better ciao

Hi I have read them along with lots of others ( which in a lot of cases leave a lot to be desired lol ) my advice would be ask as many questions as you can when ever they occur to you ( remember there is no silly questions about ferrets ) you have at your fingertips something non of those books can give you the advice of experienced owners here on the board ! who are going through or have gone through just what you are or have experienced something similar in the past in my honest opinion nothing beats hands on learning why because no two ferrets are the same and because so many illnesses of ferrets mimic another ( illnesses should always be diagnosed by a vet to be 100% certain don't ever rely on a book ) and believe me I know about that part lol years ago when I first came on here and read about adrenal disease I talked myself into thinking one of my guys was adrenal ( even though my brain was screaming Bev he always sheds funny that's how he has done it for years ) no he wasn't adrenal ( she says touching wood and crossing her fingers ) and yes it was just his normal shed lol but boy did it make me think lol even after 44 years of ferret keeping I am still a novice lol the earning part about ferrets never ends they always have something new to teach us lol take care bye for now bev

I got Ferrets for Dummies after my daughter said "mom, could you watch them for a couple of weeks while I'm out of town and moving", etc (that was about 3 years ago ) Now she couldn't take the little fuzzbutts back if she tried Glad I got the book and read it cover to cover but even more glad that I found this forum. Lots of info and the best people to laugh, cry and learn with!

Thanks guys, I will be back with lots of questions. probably when I finish reading this book... (stares at book) My eyes feel like they're going to just shut down. lol. I've read, and re-read almost every paragraph thinking to myself "do I need to know this" and then I'll read three more pages, go back to that one paragraph, mark it and sticky note the page. I'm running out of sticky notes and I'm barely half way through the book.
