well mine have never suffered from eating egg shell lol as for how often a boiled egg can be given as often as you like sherry your a softy lol I never break the shells I let them figure it out for themselves lol its kind of funny seeing them roll it on there tummy's a few times while trying to grip it with there paws and bite lol then they try the roll it off the wall a few times and finally after around 30 mins they discover hey this thing has cracked now to get into the crack lol its all part of the brain stimulation and after all no one cracks eggs for them in the wild lol take care bye for now Bev

Are your eggs store bought or "au natural"? I find the store bought eggs, appear to have thicker shells and are waxed to preserve them. It makes them a whole lot tougher to break. My guys totally enjoyed getting pigeon eggs. The local farmer didn't want any more pigeons flying around so the easiest thing was to get rid of the eggs. She gave my guys the eggs and yes they loved working it all out (really messy though ) Then it was all about stealing the shells and licking them out or chewing on them. I found that the guys just couldn't break the store bought eggs (I actually have dropped them on a tile floor and only had them crack . I was told by one of the poultry people at the farmer's market that they actually put something in their diet to thicken up the shell so that they won't break in transportation. I will sometimes get the whole thing started by cracking the egg first and giving it to them ;D ciao

My dad actually used to feed the chickens the ground up shells for the extra calcium. And yes, it did make the shells much harder!
