i have a stuffed animal from when i went to disney last year she has no glassd/plastic eyes however i was wondering sicne oreo is an only ferret is he allowed to have it to play with when he is out or in his cage

I have a ferret named Stiv, he will steal all kinds of stuffed animals! some people leave them in the cages if they know their ferrets are not going to chew like stiv. however i have a little girl also, Coda who likes to chew on embroidered eyes. as long as you watch him , i am sure the stuffed animal is fine  |

Mine have a few stuffed toys. You just have to make sure you check them regularly for any damage like seams coming apart etc. mine don't tend to eat stuffed toys but they do love to stash them.

alright cause the one i have is marie from the aristo cats and all she has is the little pink bow on it least stuffed animals can always be sown if any damage is done ill even look at some of my ones that are put away to see if they can be given to him i wanted to make sure if they were ok to let him have before i brought the bag down to look through plus i saw him just playing with her like he would with another ferret

Some of mine adore their stuffies ;D they don't play with them so much as stash them! And then proceed to move them from one stash spot to another! Mine also love it when you "wrestle" them with a stuffie |

I have tons of stuffed animals for the ferrets to play with, some large and some small. They are safe as long as you check them now and then, make sure they are holding up well. I usually give all my ferrets toys a once-over when I clean out their cage each week. Any toys that show signs of breaking down (loose threads, open seams, stuffing coming out) get tossed. |

I've had a number of ferrets who have loved their stuffies. Loki Bears came with a kitty whom he would stash. He would also get very upset if you stole his kitty or moved her. He never seemed to snuggle with her...she was strictly for hiding. Captain Jack had Jack his monkey...he loved him to death...literally. The poor monkey fell apart (hence the reason for checking frequently). Yuri ate his ducky...not good....lots of pumpkin and ferret lax later...the ducky was in the litter box and Yuri isn't allowed stuffies of any sort. Minion had one of those empty dog toys, the animals without stuffing  He had a fox that rather looked like a ferret...he doesn't seem to play with it much any more as he prefers to use Yuri and Boris. It's really hard to tell what stuffies will work and how hard your ferrets are on them. Check daily, if they disappear find them (that is what happened to Yuri's stuffed duck, it disappeared and we found it a couple of days later without legs, beak or tail   ) ciao |

:)Depends on a LOT of things, for example the regular the felt can cause blockage if its eaten, but for bigger example do the toy designers expect the toy to be in pets paws or child's hands?
A long time ago but not so far away a post was made about a dog who ate a child's teddy bear. The felt was made with a synthetic chemical for resistance to fire so if a house fire happend it will not burn or spread the burning.
The chemical was very poisons for the poor dog and the vet had to say "Their is nothing we can do, your dog is going to die." So they can only be as safe as the toy buyer is careful.

I'd forgotten about that Aaron! The stuffing was treated, dog ate it(this happened more than once, by the way), and the fire retardant stuffing turned into a type of gel in the stomach and intestines, basically turning the intestine of the dogs necrotic.
Now, I've no idea if that is still being used or not. But children's stuffed animals are likely not the best choice if you have any animals in the house that will ingest them.

This is scary stuff! If they toys turned toxic what about babies who teeth on stuffies?  Loki isn't much of a stuffie kid but I will be doubly careful from now on! ~Kelli |

I think it depends on the ferret and the shape of the toys. My ferrets do pretty good with stuffys unless they are in the shape of a ball. Ball shaped stuffies never last with my kids while other shaped stuffies do just fine. My kids favorite are the mouse shaped stuffies for cats. They carry those all over. They Never play tug with those ones.

The thing with the filling is that is actually has to be ingested to cause problems. Very few, if any, children are actually going to eat their stuffed animals. Which is why the fire proofing is safe for them. And with ferrets, you check for wear and toss them. After all, I'm hoping Most people remove toys ferrets ate showing signs of wanting to eat.
