poor boy- hope he is not too uncomfortable waiting for the vet. Could be a number of things including blockage, perforation, twisted intestine- all can be relieved by exploritory surgery -i pray for him..

Oh poor thing! That would explain why he had stopped eating, his belly was full of lump! Poor buddy. I'm glad he made it through the surgery okay. I know how stressful and traumatic that can be and it take a while for them to fully recover. If I really think about it, I'd say it took about a year for Koda to FULLY recover from his blockage surgery. Granted we dealt with some major IBD issues after that that took a long time to resolve through meds and diet too. Right now soft foods are going to be your best bet as his belly heals. They will be easier for him to absorb the max amount of nutrition from as well. Keep us posted on his recovery please!

Well, sad news. Slinky had gastric cancer and the mass continued to block his pylorus. Another surgery was out of the question; he was miserable and his prognosis was very poor. I put him to sleep yesterday evening.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your furfriend. I will light a travelling candle to guide his paws onto his next great adventure. Thank you for loving him and giving him his heartkey. Do not grieve for he would not have wanted to have you cry for him, he only asks that you listen to the wind and close your eyes so that you can find him playing in the leaves and grasses at around your feet. Gentle journey little one. You are greatly missed ciao

Final report came in today. The mass was a mesenchymal neoplasm. The research I've done results in statements like "Malignant mesenchymoma is a rare malignant tumor reported in animals as well as humans" and "Digestive mesenchymal neoplasms are rare in ferrets." He didn't have lymphoma or insulinoma, he was a healthy ferret otherwise, just unlucky as can be.
We're ferretless for now but that shouldn't last too long. Maybe a new pair after christmas from the same shelter. I'll be back!
