Does anyone know if Archetype Diet by Wysong is good for ferrets? I read an artical about it and they said it was good but before I buy it was just wondering if any of you use it

Wysong Archetypal 1 Ferret? Phenomenal product! I just wish they would have quit changing it up without telling anyone Doesn't mean it's not good, just the recipe has been changed with no notice, causing some fuzz to rebel about eating it.

The Archetypal ! is suppose to be good but If i recall the second is bad for ferrets, the food itant ground up enough or something. But I could be wrong.

It's also many times more expensive than making your own raw mix or buying commercial raw. And some were giving their ferrets the freeze dried round dog treats but had to stop, I think, since they started putting big chunks of carrot in it.

Wysong's Freeze-dried products as of about 2 months ago:
Ferret Archetypal I - Good product, but consistency has varied GREATY (from highly homogenized to VERY rustic (chunks of organs, skins, vessels, etc.) since they changed the formula at the beginning of the year.
Archetype Burgers - (for dogs and cats) This is the original Archetype formula in BURGER form. The burgers are very dense (highly compressed) and must be broken up prior to feeding to ferrets. This formula has a lower organ content than the newer version of Ferret Archtypal 1. The burgers have been consistent in content and "presentation".
Dream Treats - cold-processed (ie., freeze-dried raw) Treats only - highly homgenized small patties that can be easily broken up or ferret. Again, these are treats only Epigen-90 ferret diet - this is kibble (i.e., NOT raw), but it's 90% animal protein and starch free (not just grain free. - no starches)
If you require a freeze-dried raw diet, Stella and Chewy's offers a variety of freeze-dried raw products that many ferret owners are using. I can find the STella and CHewy's products locally (I have to order the Wysong.)
Other freeze-dried raw options include: * AFS * Nature's Variety -----years ago, I tried the NV freeze-dried raw products. I found that they had LARGE chunks of pumpkin seeds that could easily cause blockages. Last year, I was given a trial size package, and the pumpkin seed problem did NOT exist. They may have fixed the pumpkin seed problem, but I cannot guarantee this since I recieved only one small package of the food. * ZiwiPeak - similar to a highly processed jerky. less meat-like than some of the other freeze-dried products.
I suspect that other freeze-dried diets have since become available on the market, but the above seem to be most widely available.

I use wysong ferret arch 1. It is great. I love the wysong probiotics. If I don't feed my ferret this food, I can tell the difference I'm his coat in a few weeks. I rehydrate it though.

I've been using the Archetypal-1 for over 6.5 years along with fresh raw as the primary food source. The last case I bought was super homogenized - the kids are not particularly fond of it, so it's going done slowly. My brats like the rustic stuff, bt a lot of ferrets prefer the homogenized food.
I've written Wysong regarding the inconsistency issues....It sucks to buy an expensive case f food that your ferrets don't like very much. My kids eat it because they eat everything. But, if something else is available, the homogenized food is left untouched.
A friend of mine (who is not a raw feeder) was just complaining that the last case he got was loaded with guts, large pieces with "hard inedible white objects" (as in bone?) and "tubes filled with green stuff"...very rustic! He had to throw half of the food out because his ferrets would not eat it. My brats would have preferred the rustic to the homogenized stuff, which is more the consistency of a coarsely textured meringue!!!

Yes Jen the most recent batch that I got has a lot of organ meats, odd looking pieces, etc. My ferret is a little piggy he'll eat most everything. I'm having some issues with the beef Stella & chewys feline. He eats it but not as enthusiastically as other food. it smells very strong (when it is rehydrated it smells very livery and you know how WONDERFUL beef liver smells) . Has anyone tried any of the feline s & c?

I have not tried the BEEF Stella & Chewys since Wysong Archetype burgers contain a lot of beef. I mostly buy the S&C Duck, Duck , Goose and the lamb since I try to feed across multiple varieties and multiple brands. The liver stink sounds just "lovely" -jennifer
