Take a thin towel, wrap her up like a ferret burrito, lay her along your arm so that you can still scruff her with that same hand. So now you have a scruffed ferret burrito laying along one arm. With your free hand you should now be able to syringe feed her. I find that this is the least stressful method of syringe feeding and they often just relax and allow it to happen. I hope that makes sense to you. I have photos but I will have to find them they're not loaded on photobucket ciao

i went looking at this sub q stuff and I really wish i had those butterfly attachments with the tubing. Looks like it would make this process way easier.

ok i think I did it. I sausage rolled her partially and the hubby held her and I got it in properly and then she freaked out when i started to plunge it but was ready for her freak out although it made the needle go in a bit more. But I got all the fluid in, it's not on the floor and she's got a bit of a bump like i was told she was supposed to have. So that means I did it right i hope? I'm shaking now i was so nervous geez, i hate needles.

Yes, you did it right! The fluid will sit under the skin til absorbed. You are doing well, so don't worry about that

You did good. I know, I'm fine while I'm doing the treatment but after it's all done, I'm shaking so badly it's a good thing that I don't have to do a second fuzz. I, too hate needles. In fact can't even watch someone poke me . I can do it for my fuzzies though, stupid

I'm terrified of hypo's! But I had to do it monthly with a steroid injection for one of my dogs. It's amazing what we can bring ourselves to do for our animals! Please, keep us updated on how she is doing?

Ok so I've successfully given the sub q fluids, I also managed to get an entire syringe of duck soup into her, well mostly. some of it went all over me and her blanket but the rest went into her. She's still very sleepy and doesn't wake up unless i wake her up. She finally had a bowel movement about 15 mins ago. She was really straining to go and had to try several times to pass it. It was very dark green, and a strange almost tarry, sticky kind of texture? Which i recall reading somewhere and all i remember was that it was NOT good So I took a picture of it and sent it to the vet as he gave me his personal email so he can keep in contact with me this weekend. I also dug threw it and I didnt see any real foreign body. If anyone wants the picture for their own diagnosis or reference let me know and i can email it since i dont think it's thread appropriate.

Doubtful if your cats will contract it. And as for appropriate for a ferret forum? We are all obsessed with poops, so no worry. Please feel free to post poop pictures in your thread! It sometimes helps us to know what you are talking about. At the same time, please tell us what they've had to eat, including any treats!

My understanding is they cannot but it might be a question to take up with your vet to be sure. ECE is a coronavirus and is shed in the stool but my understanding is that it is only highly contagious to other ferrets, double check with your vet to be sure (make sure you wash up after handling Jinx). ECE is typically known as green slime disease. In it's primary stages the ferret's stool is a disgusting lime green. Now, as your little one's producing dark, tarry stools...this appears to be what is warned about in the later stages of the ECE. Namely, the possibilty of a helicobacter overgrowth due to stress. An ulcer possibility. This is relatively simple as it can be controlled with antibiotics (actually ulcers can be easier to deal with than the original ECE, which truthfully can only be treated in a supportive manner and hope that secondary infections don't occur) Good luck....keep the questions coming as you think of them ciao

Ok well here are the poop pictures then. The first one is before I pulled it apart to see if anything was in it. The second one is after I pulled it apart. The only thing she has had to eat today was a small amount of pumpkin, half a syringe of a/d wet food (there's no markings on the syringe so i can't be more specific), and a syringe of duck soup. The duck soup had chicken, 2 jars of chicken baby food, a little ferretone, a can of a/d wet food, water, pumpkin, and soaked EVO kibble. This picture was taken shortly after the syringe of duck soup though so I'm sure none of that is in the poop.
