What do you guys who have dealt with adrenal recommend for treatment - is it better to start with lurpon and then start des. when lupron becomes ineffective, or to go straight to des.?

two of the vets i go to have said they'd prefer to use lupron first (basically to see if the condition responds to it) and then move to the desi. the third vet didn't state such a preference.
the preference was stated before the desi implants were actually used...now it's over six months later and they may have changed their opinions since there's some feedback from clients at this point. dunno - didn't ask about it when discussing it with the one vet (she's the one that never stated that preference). i ended up going to the other vet office though because they didn't have any on hand...and that vet (who'd previously said she'd want to do lupron first) did actually try to give the lupron. she didn't argue with me about it when i said i wanted to do the desi instead though.
i have 5 that are on the desi.
4 were started on lupron almost 2 years ago - long before the desi was available - and got the desi implants this past summer and one went directly on the desi just last month. it was clear he had adrenal so i didn't see any reason to 'test' it by giving lupron for a couple months to see if there was a response...just went right for the desi.
last i heard (which was, btw, directly from the company that makes it) the desi was going to be unavailable until sometime this month and no particular date was provided...and they're dealing with severe weather issues down there in oz - the flooding did end up going into the state that peptech is located in - so, production may be held up due to that. i'm late responding to the last email due to my work situation; once i do send a response, i'll have more updated info. which reminds me, i need to follow up with the vet about taco's response to the desi, too!
if your vet or another vet already has some in stock, then the supply situation won't be an issue for you.
if the ferret has clear signs of being adrenal, personally, i don't see any reason to do the lupron if you can do the desi instead. if it's questionable and you want to test it for a couple months, doing the lupron would be the way to go since it's less expensive.

My vet said surgery is the best option followed by deslorelin then lupron with melatonin implants.
I've got two with deslorelin implants and its worked great.
