Ok so salem has a regular large cat little box and he will use 2-3 times and then he goes right next to it! the first 30 minutes of my morning are cleaning pee and he some times does it at night and rarley in the day. He takes his food in there I've tried clip on bowls but it is too high for him to reach and his food becomes spoiled. I've seen the remote litter box but I don't like the idea of cutting up my exspensive cage. I need ideas! I was thinking a black storage tub with an entrance whole cut in it?

My ferrets were 12 week old kits when I first got them, they are about a year old now. I decided not to mess around with litter boxes and I have a huge one in the bottom of their cage, the thing takes up half the floor on the bottom level. Yeah, it takes up a lot of room, but I've never had an accident in cage. There's tons of room for them to get their entire body in, the sides are high enough that it feels private. I did have to use a dremel tool to cut down a section for them to get in, but that took about 3 minutes and was easy. sorry for the crap quality, cell phone pic.. but you can see how big the box is. it's basically the size of one of the shelves.

I use a dishpan for Loki, but we have the same sort of issue; if he thinks it's 'dirty' then he's done using it. I don't have any suggestions for you. We went with the large dishpan because it's big enough that it takes him all day, sometimes two, before there is enough poo for him to think it's dirty. Someone on here (I think) turned the entire bottom of the FN into a litter pan as a solution. Before they war danced into our lives I never thought so much about poop. ~Kelli

Have you tried both covering everything on that level with blankets, bedding, etc? That and watching to see him backing up and putting his butt into the box every time?

I put some of poop in the litterbox, and I wiped up some pee with toilet paper and put it in there too. I kept all other areas clean with nature's miracle to remove scent and where I could I moved the litterbox to the corners they chose. All six ferrets are 99%, they go next to the litter box if I don't clean it! They will habitually toilet where they smell it so removing the scent in other areas is important.

I'v just switched to cleaning it with diluted vinegar before that I used pine'O clean disenfectent but realised it was bad for his health I put some of poop in the litterbox, and I wiped up some pee with toilet paper and put it in there too. Yeah, its true, it is a lot to pay for a litter box. But its very, very nice. Definitely works, too.
