our lot of 17 are outside in two sheds.. full free roam within the sheds.
Yeap.. it gets well below zero sometimes but i've never.. not a single time found them cold... water bowls are switched out when below zero and thats that...
Personally i feel they thrive in the cold.. all of mine have come awake while through out the summer they were lazy and lounging about... now.. they dance and run and climb and dash through the meters and meters of tubes and pipes..
Indoors is fine.. if thats your thing.. but do be aware of unnatural lighting and heating can trigger them into season as early as November / December time!! to me that says something isn't right!
here in the UK.. we dont have large predators... we use welded mesh for our mesh fronts and the sheds are wood and concrete.. nothing can get in. Because ferrets smell of carnivore, even in more rural settings the foxes dont come near the hutches and sheds ...

Cool decision on the ferret shed! I'm no help at all with plans or advice on how to do it. My babies have to live indoors, between the drunken college students, the insane rats, and the possibility of heartworm. I'm so envious of people in Europe who can give them a more natural light cycle and temp!
