I never even thought of using vaseline to move hairballs. My lot didn't get any when they had their big sheds from Winter to Summer, & 4 of them are only just over 12 months old, the other is around 2 years, I think.
Also, does it have to be canned pumpkin? Or it fresh, well cooked & pureed pumpkin fine? I don't like the idea of canned, mainly because I have limitted selection & the ones I have growing in my yard are lovely. Once a week will do, yes? With some olive oil mixed in with it & mince?

Fresh pumpkin is even better than canned. It's just easier to get the canned stuff (not pie filling just pumpkin). Cooked and pureed would be great and yes you can add some fish oils to it too if you like ciao

I had a vet appointment yesterday and asked the vet about pumpkin she said to stay away from giving her that, but she recommended putting a bit of mineral oil in the wet food or the soups, what do you guys think of that?

My old vet has tried to say the same thing- then in the next breath they'll tell you why kibbe is so much better For some reason, they seem to think it will CAUSE a blockage. No idea if they think it can only be fed raw, or if they think the ferrets are getting half a can at a time, or what Mineral oil will do exactly the same thing as the vaseline- block absorption. Without any of the benefits of vaseline- namely helping move a blockage So no, stay far away from that stuff!

I can't believe there is such a disconnect between what vets say is good for ferrets and what really is. It's shameful.

And people wonder why I don't always trust a vet's knowledge base on diet
