To try to get your ferret to eat it, maybe you could try to put the wysong (25%) with some S&C (75%) and blend it very well with water until it becomes like a paste/mush. I did this to get my girls used to the lamb flavor (which they hated). It definitely seemed to work. I will send wysong an email- unfortunately if they changed they formula for monetary reasons, they probably won't go back so easily. This has probably been in the works for awhile.

I will be trying it soon with my guys to see if they will eat the new one (I know they love the old one). There's no way you could use the old formula that you have left to slowly introduce him to the new one? I would have them change it back if the new version was bad for some reason, but it actually looks slightly better IMO. Having a singular protein source is better just incase there is a sensitivity to a certain protein, which would make them not be able to eat the food just because of one of the protein sources in it (this happened with Pandora when she was younger- she threw up anything with chicken in it, so no more wysong archetype ). Now that it seems to have disappeared, she can eat it again (and she loves it, so it was sad having to ever take it away from her). I will email them about making a beef version of the food as an alternative. Maybe even pheasant as well or something... that would be awesome.

Clarification: What changed: ------------------ The following products, which once contained chicken and beef, have been changed to contain chicken only: 1. Ferret Archetypal 1 2. Canine/Feline Archetype Why did the formula change: ------------------------------------ 1. initially changed to add more organ meats, which are typically deficient in pet foods 2. Due to complaints regarding "palatability", Wysong has backed off on some of the organ meats in the new formula. What has NOT changed: ------------------------------ 1. Archetype burgers use the same recipe as the old Archetype formula (which is closer to the old Archetypal I that new new all chicken formula) I purchased the new Archetypal I, and my brats accepted it without any hesitation...they were hissing at each other to get a the bowl. I also purchased some Archetype burgers just in case I needed to "switch" my ferrets to the new formula. The burgers that I have do not have carrot chunks in them. I fact I don't see anything orange in the burgers. I always dissect commercial food before feeding anyway. You may be able to switch your ferrets to the new formula by crumbling the burgers an slowly adding the new stuff in greater proportion over time. It's really important that pets learn to like variety. If a food formula changes (and this happens all the time), feeding can become problematic. There may be some opportunity to help you ferrets to learn to ike both formulas. Regarding the cost of the Wysong, I can almost always find a 10-15% coupon (sometimes 20% off) online. Just google Wysong coupon. -jennifer

I do give him variety but he will eat everything else BUT the new ferret wysong arch 1! I also received the email from wysong where they advised that they revised the ferret arch 1 formula to make it more palatable. So I am waiting on a sample of that in the mail. About the arch burgers, I had been feeding these to my border collie and never found chunks of carrot. But I have found them in this batch. I will try to photograph them.

I'm down to one ferret. He's only 7 months old. He really shouldn't be this picky.

FYI i found out from wysong that the reason they switched formulas is because in their plant where they make the Archetypal canine/feline and ferret archetypal 1, they had to eliminate the beef that they were previously using in order to be EU certified. the archteype burgers are not changing to all chicken. the archetype burgers will continue to contain beef because they are made at another location.

i HAVE to get a camera and take a picture of the big orange chunks that i am finding in the archetype burgers. after you wrote that you never found anything, i decided to feed him some so i took a chunk and i started to rip it apart. boy did i find alot of carrot in there! big orange chunks. maybe it is the batch that i received. i am not taking the risk and i am just not feeding them to my ferret. the dog loves them. then again, he loves everything.

Weird....I wonder if it's a bad batch....I just opened a new "can" of the burgers, and they are more like the Dream Treats (very homogenous in texture).
I dissect everything commercial that I feed my ferrets just because there can always be a "bad batch" - even at the best companies. I hope the new Archetypal I is acceptable to your fert....My kids like it. But my kids like anything that gives them a switch after a few days of eating the same thing.
It's good that you feed lots of variety - sometimes a fert will just not like something. Two of my kids love fish. One thinks it's poison, and the other will eat it but it's not special.
