My two younger pandas have taken right to the idea of chicken chunks in their soup. My two older sables are less thrilled, but will eat tiny slivers, especially if I spoon feed them. How do I get them to move up to the next size pieces?
I tried giving the pandas a chicken wing with the meat slashed so it hung off in ribbons and drizzling soup over it. They enthusiastically licked off the soup, but did not pull off much (if any) chicken. They're eating pieces about 1" x 0.5" now, and I don't really want to give them larger chunks without a bone in, because I don't want to find them behind my couch infested with maggots. With a bone, I can shower-ring it to something sturdy. I think they're still not totally clear on how to gnaw off pieces from large chunks- you should see the faces they make when trying!
With the sables, they've both eaten several bits of chicken over several meals, and seem unimpressed by it. They totally avoid larger chunks in the soup. I tried reducing the amount of soup, so it's more a sauce than a soup, but they just didn't want to eat it at all.
I think it'd be easier if they were usually caged and I could just take out the kibble and leave the meat, so that they'd get hungry and try it. But Will, one of the sables, has insulinoma and needs regular meals. And god forbid I cage the poor brats, you'd think the cage was made of lava the way they carry on. How do I move everyone up a meat chunk size?

Before trying to move them up in size, start reducing the soup until they are eating straight chunks. Then you can start slowly increasing the size of the bits. Some also do better with keeping the meat thin for a while, and at the same time, increasing the length, so they get used to chewing. Think "meat spaghetti"
