I am sorry to hear that this is happening to your baby. But I do believe heartworm is carried by mosquitos, so if you or anyone else who lives in a place where there are A LOT of mosquitos, you should definitely consider heartworm preventative. I keep seeing mosquitos around my house lately, so I am going to get some stuff tomorrow at the vet. I wish you and your fuzz the best of luck! <3

Oh Jennifer, you were such a help (and so supportive) when Jack was sick. I wish I knew words to express how sorry I am to hear about Shaman. Thoughts and prayers from all of us for sweet Shaman and you.

i have always heard that people out there don't need heartworm prevention. but obviously, that is not the case. i have always had to use ivermectin once a month to prevent heartworms. we have alot of mosquitos here in miami florida. unfortunately, heartworms in dogs and ferrets is not uncommon here (even in cats). my ferrets have always been indoors. i once asked my vet why did i have to give the prevention if my ferrets were indoors. and the way he put it to me was "it only takes one mosquito to infect your ferret. one bad mosquito that gets into the house bites him and that's it." it is just so horrible that in colorado a place where this is unheard of this has happened. jennifer loves her ferrets and she is always so conscious about their health. she goes above and beyond for them. Jennifer, there are no words. you are right this is harsh.
