I would depend on the personality of the ferrets. Can you visit the store/breeder, place the two kits you are interested in and watch how they interact with each other before you decide? oh and I love they names

Gender doesn't really matter with most ferrets. The only times it seems to are some very dominant females won't accept another female, but generally most people don't run across those. Males in rut are the other exception. Most of the year they are fine with either/or, but when in rut, they have to live separately. Some can't even be around neutered males.
