I went out into the feild and found 2 medium green frogs, and 1 tiny green frog. These are your typical green road side ditch frogs. They use these for frog legs. Brought them back to the weasels and......They LOVED them. Tazzie was being a fattie and gobbled/crunched off some legs. Lelloo ate the head. Swipper tried to stash everything. And even little ripply who has grown really pudgy got into the act. I love my kids.

Yummy! I would be scared to do that though, some frogs and toads are deadly poisonous! We especially have toads here that can kill dogs etc. But I don't know which are safe to eat so I couldn't do this

How on earth do you kill a frog for the ferrets ;D Or do they kill them as fast as they do the mice?

okkkay! First you grab the frog. Than you stun them, depending on the frog species, by messing with them untill they play dead. Bull Frogs will blow up and float upside down when threatened. How to kill the creature? You take a knife and give the frogs head a quick poke just behind the eyes. I use to kill minows this way. I gave them one dead to see if they would even take the frog. Than I stunned the last two and placed them in the old feeding chamber. Lelloo killed it quick. She always goes for the neck/back. If you have a hopper, Kill them first so the ferrets don't chase a frog all day. Or...acualy let the frog hop around and your ferrets chase it down in the bathroom or somewhere with four simple walls.

I caught the prettiest little brown tree frog, looked it up online (forget now what it was called) but it wasnt poison. I thought it'd be good for the kids room to eat some flies.. SoCo thought it was a playmate. He got a kick out of it and chased it around until it jumped up on the wall. It gave me a heart attack because it was super tiny and almost got into an electrical socket... I got it away from there and Kahlua bushed out when it jumped on her back, apparently this thing had a death wish. Mojito ignored it, I don't think he noticed it really. Tequila tried to eat it. Fiancee came home and made me put it back outside... :\

I don't want to be alarmist but I'd be wary of feeding anything you catch in the wild to your fuzzies as they might harbour parasites or heavy metal toxicity from pollution. Parasites aren't a huge concern for us in wild caught meat as we tend to cook everything before we eat it but feeding raw to your fuzzies could be dangerous. Also amphibians can harbour high levels of toxic chemicals they absorb a lot of things through their skin.

The parasites are easy enough to kill of with deep freezing, but no idea about the chemical absorption.

I just found some frogleggs at a local store myself. I usually avoid it at all costs sice it's not the best place and all their prices are a rip off but since it's close it's my emergency item i forgot while shopping earlier stoor. Imagin my suprise when I saw frog leggs. Taking the chance I bought three pairs and imediatly gave them to the fuzzies when I got home. their first reaction were reclutant nibbling but that soon turned into a full on freak out of love. Each doing their best impression of a starving animal wolfing down every bit as if I don't over stuff them as it is. Folowed by screaching turmoil over weither parts should be stashed or just eaten straight out. Needless to say frogg leggs are in the top three of favorite meals already it seems.

Don't get one they can't kill quickly. After all- a quick, merciful death is what we are trying to do with the live feeding. Yes, an animal dies to feed our little ones, but no reason that animal should have to suffer for it.
