Second ferret this week for us. Dallas passed away today. She was our little white girl. There's not much to say about her as I haven't had her to long but she was such a sweetheart. Whenever I was taking the ferrets out, she was the first one out. Everyone already loved her so much in the short time we've had her. She was only 3 years old. RIP Dallas. --- A bit of what happened, if anyone can explain what might of happened with her, please do. I woke up this morning to a ferret "snoring". Dallas was underneath Noah in one of the beds and snoring, I took Noah off to see what was wrong with her and she was fast asleep, in the "dead ferret sleep". She opened her eyes, I was able to tell she was still asleep though, her paws were moving and she was getting startled with every ferret that touched her, she was still doing the snoring sound too. She also had pooped on herself during the night and had poop on her butt. I thought something might of been wrong so I picked her up and when she was in my arms, I noticed she had passed away. I thought what happened could of been she was just very asleep and because of her being deaf she went into a shock of fear? I'm really not sure what could of happened. She was fine all night long and ever since I had her. I don't know what could of possibly happened.

Oh, no I gather she was fine prior to this? If so, it could have been heart, she could have had an insulinomic seizure, anything. Only way you'll know for sure is a necropsy. I am so very, very sorry

Oh no! How terrible! I am so sorry. *hugs* There was nothing you could have done to predict this. I agree with Sherry that it sounds as if she possibly had a seizure or some sort of heart attack or stroke. It is very possible that the snoring and twitching that you saw were some sort of final seizure before she finally passed. Just know that for the few short days she was with you, she lived a great life and was a happy girl. It sounds like she loved it at your place, and loved being loved by you. I am sorry for your loss but as many say, now she has her heart key and she will wait for you at the bridge.

So very sorry. I know that she is thankful that she had the best of homes at the end and passed while being held and loved.

I think sometimes these babies wait until they've found their soul person to go to the bridge. Dallas waited until she could get her heart key,and then she went on her way. I am so sorry for your loss and that you weren't with her for long. I know she appreciates your help, as she traverses the path to the bridge.

Thank you everyone. It was really a shock and I'm still having a hard time adjusting, it's not the same to even open the cage anymore and not see the little bugger getting ready to jump like a nut. I wish she would of showed any sign at all that she was ill or anything at all. She was perfectly fine and healthy, but than again, I'm not sure if I'm just paranoid now, but each time she was out of the cage, she would climb into the couch and take a nap. And when she stood still, she kind of wobbled like she was dizzy, but her previous owner said it was normal as she was deaf. She even threw up a few times, I presumed it was from being switched onto raw. I should of known something was wrong with her. I know she's dooking happily with all the other ferrets who crossed the bridge.

I"m so sorry for the loss of your wee one. How difficult it must be. I will light a candle, to guide her paws onto her next great adventure. Run free wee one, play and romp with those that have gone before..your newest adventure is just beginning. Just so you know, those symptoms are all classic signs of insulinoma. Deafies have no symptoms other than spooking and sometimes a more aggresive behaviour. Your wee one probably passed on due to a grand mal seizure caused by a continued drop of her blood sugar. Her friends laying on her probably prevented you from hearing the full extent of her seizure. ciao
