:/ I really don't think your ferrets would get enough out of their food if they are left timed to eat. I secound suggestion for feeding den, I have two ferrets one is left to roam my house, I place his bowl in one corner of his "den" (Just a cheap plastic box, large enough from him to take his food out and place it somewhere easy for his to eat and dark enough so he doesn't feel threaten) He knows that's where his food goes, he also stashed toys here I feed him two large meals, one in the morning when I leave for work and one at night as I'm sitting down to dinner. He will dive for his bowl eat a chuck or two and leave it, within 4-6hours he's usually finished a single meal. Larger whole prey you will need to leave with them longer. Start by putting treats in their den, then offer them a treat away from it and watch to see where they take it. If they don't go to the den just pick them up and put them and their treat in their.
