He is now refusing to eat anything raw except for beef, pork and sometimes egg. So now I have to feed him canned and when he refuses canned he gets kibble that I moisten. My question is how much beef, pork and egg can I add without throwing everything out of balance. Like can 10% of his diet be raw or 20% or what? Ive heard that with dogs you can feed up to 20% but I know cats are different so I just want to make sure.

I gather you are talking about your kitty? They can be little beggars at times Have you tried slipping in slivers of different meats with his preferred ones? If you put them in, do so about an hour before feeding, so they can "marinate" together. Is he getting organ meats, or heart? Those are very important as well. You could always use powdered eggshell on the meat for the interim until you can get him eating bone again.

Yep. Hes a cat. I have tried mixing in tiny bits of other meat in with canned food and meats he will eat and he refuses to eat it. I will have to try "marinating" it. He will not eat heart, liver, kidney or lung. A month ago he would eat anything raw but now hes being stubborn.

First thing I'd do if you want to keep him on raw is pick up some taurine supplement, and some cod liver oil. He needs both the taurine and the vit. A. All I can suggest is keep plugging away at it, and hopefully he'll decide the rest is food again. Hopefully someone with more experience at this pops in!

I found the first couple of years, Samurai would backslide and we had to start at the beginning but I never went back to kibbles (he was a huge kibble addict). We would just back track to moist and then start adding minute pieces of raw (usually ground), increasing the amounts as he accepted the amounts I put into his canned. I did at the time manage to get him to switch from the Fancy feast stuff to Evo (it used to be a good food , the Evo that is, that was 14 yrs ago ) so I didn't feel too badly when he slipped at least I knew that I was feeding 100% better than feeding kibbles. It's a matter of degrees with cats, they can be a real pain when it comes to switching others just do it as a matter of it's the food that's served. I haven't had a cat eat kibbles in my house in over 15 yrs. ciao

Chewy is not a kibble addict. When I first got him he actually switched himself to raw. Then he started to refuse to eat it so I fed canned. Now hes refusing to eat canned to now its kibble. I think he goes through phases. I will never give up on the raw. Im sure he will start eating it again. Its just kind of frustrating. And I give him his food and thats all he gets til next meal time. Im not giving it to him, he refuses so I give him something else. He will actually starve himself if he doesnt get something he wants. So I had to switch to kibble but I do moisten it.
