We've got one ferret with IBD - and though he loves it, chicken does NOT love him. So, we're looking at adding 'cool protein' fish for him. Any thoughts or experiences? Canned? Fresh? Type?

You can only try. IBD is a horrible mix of trial and error and sheer guess work. I would suggest reading up on Sherry and Katt's IBD thread and seeing what helped stabalize their wee ones. There is no magic formula, unfortunately...it's what works for your wee one. I would lean toward raw vs canned, just preference and control. Smaller over larger fish types, other than that whatever will sit on his wee tummy. ciao

Is he set off by any other meats than chicken? If that is(for now) the only one that does it to him, then maybe get him used to doing a slow switch between meats. For Boris, I can only do a 10% increase of a new meat per day, and he can only go up to about 30% of anything other than lamb. Others can do a faster switch with no ill effects. Again- it's all trial and error. I strongly suggest keeping a log for every meal. Write what he eats, what supplements you may use, anything that happened that day that could have stressed him out. After a while, you notice what's working and what isn't. On to your fish question, I've heard some do well with it. Boris won't even look at fish, let alone smell/taste it

Oh, just thought of something while reading this over...you're not talking about making fish his diet right? Just a component? Fish won't cover his dietary needs...it can be used as one of the 3 proteins and shouldn't be used as a major component either. If that wasn't what you were talking about that's fine but I just thought of that as I was rereading this thread. ciao

It seems to be just chicken that triggers him. We did find out that he likes rabbit, so I've got an order in with Hare Today. The fish will be a small supplement to his turkey, pork, and now Rabbit. He also likes the all-natural fish/salmon canned kitten food.
Since I had to have a minimum 10lb order, I threw in some quail and goat as well. Back to introducing them to new and exciting eats.

Rabbit for whatever reason has always been tolerated well by my IBD and ulcer kids. It even sat well with my ancient kitty (22 yrs) ciao
