Hey all!! I might be going to the ferret show in march, york pa again and I need yalls opinion on colors and companion. Last yr lelloo took 5 out of 7 in chocolate, but 8 out of 10 in one of the three companion rings. Her mask is off and she is a TINY ferret. Since she is set for everything, Should I go n head to just bring her for a second run? Only in chocolate since companion was pretty awefull. And for new options. Wheezy- less than yr old chocolate male. I only really worry about him being younge and ticklish. lol But he seems to be a better chocolate than lee and also a pretty companion. He is a bit on the heafty side. Wheezy- She's the same age but more of a mutt. A big bib, white toes, knees, etc. I don't think she'll be good but worth posting. Tulia- My mutt! I know they have a mutt category but is she really a mutt? Jack Jack- My bubby. He is pretty white but has this yellow line down his back. He is also a hefty 4 lb boy. Any way I can fix the yellow in order to get him in albino - companion? Tazz- He is the youngest but is also the most calm of the youngins. He is like between black and sable. lol His tan furr is dark tan. He is also a little over 2 lbs of just...thickness. Would his mask be off in sable?

For the fact that she placed at all in companion is great! So in no way did she do awe full! In fact she did well You know not everyone in companion get a ribbon, some ferrets never make it in the top ten! Plus companion is where she's going to finish her championship title, Platinum being the highest for companions. So if you want to try to get her title you will have to keep showing her in companion, and to finish she has to have placements in the top 3. And if they dont do well one show, doesn't meant they wont do well in another show. Alot of factors play into their placement such as season, different judges, and who is entered in the class. My ferret Dancer, had multiple 1st place in companion and Panda, finished as a platinum champion, ect.. he always did well, except for summer shows, like the buckeye bash, in summer he just was not in his top shape so if I would have gone by one show, look what he would have missed.

From the sounds of it, Wheezy and Tulia is a mutt, but she probably wont be able to place high in that class because she's not "mutt enough" compared to the ferrets that come in with stripes and splotches, or if she would go up against a nice blaze, and especially if a nice standard panda would come in, thats stiff competition as a good panda is hard to come by. Wheezy and Tulia is one of them fuzzies that don't really fit in a color class to where they are going to do well. I have 2 exactly like her myself However, I'd try them in the companion, that would be her best bet But really it doesn't hurt to try a class and see how it goes, at times you might be surprised. Like My Tipsy one coat change, he's typically a standard champagne, but just went through a coat change and his coloring was still a bit diluted on the back, so I tired him in Point and he actually got a 4th which shocked me! So you never know. Tazz has a muddy mask, Hailey does too and she still places great for Black Sable! If he is kind of dark for a sable, but a little light for a black, I would try both and see how he fairs best for which class. Jack enter him in albino, you'll see that alot of the albino's and dews with a yellow tinge so he wont be the only one Use a whitener shampoo the night before the show, when you apply the shampoo let it sit for a min-2, then rinse. Once rinsed, if you think he needs another wash do it again.

I've always wanted to enter my girls in a show, but they are always far away. Also don't you need up to date vaccination records?

I've always wanted to enter my girls in a show, but they are always far away. Also don't you need up to date vaccination records? ADV testing must be current with in 12 months of show date, Rabies must be current. Ferrets should have distemper vaccine, and if not current a titer is acceptable. Everyone is required to sign a ADV waiver and distemper waiver. All ferrets must be free of fleas, ear mites, and must be healthy. Most of the shows aren't so close to me either, I usually drive between 3 1/2 - 6 hours for a show. Whats nice is going to shows I've met lots of friends from all over, so I can car pull with them and split gas, ect... it helps alot and is more fun Other states can have AFA shows too, if a group wants to host a show somewhere all they have to do is check for a open date for a show, and abide by AFA rules. The shows are alot of work to put on though! I am putting together our first show for the New Castle Ferret Club, April 16th Holiday Inn Beaver Falls, PA.

I've never vaccinated for rabies, and I don't think I ever will. Oh well. My girls are winners in my eyes already

I've never vaccinated for rabies, and I don't think I ever will. Oh well. My girls are winners in my eyes already Of course they are winners! All ferrets are the number one, no matter what they place ;D At the shows the rabies vaccine is for your ferrets protection. What if for some reason your ferret got scared or spooked and bit someone and they turn you in then you jeopardize the ferrets life, sometimes they let you quarantine and in worse case scenario the euthanize the ferret and have it sent out to check for rabies So got to have the vaccine for the safety of your ferret. My friend had her ferrets at the show, she was holding her and some idiot walked up to the ferret put her face right in the ferrets out of no where, it spooked the ferret, and her ferret latched on her septum of the nose, the lady had lots of blood and had to get stitches and she actually tried to turn her ferret in to check for rabies (some ferret lover huh ) so if that ferret didn't have the vaccine it could have ended up very bad for the ferret. Thats why AFA requires the rabies, for the protection of the ferrets. Really any where you bring your ferret to in public they should have that vaccine for something like that, because you just never know. For my ferrets when they get a rabies vaccine I do a pre treatment before the vaccine. Once the ferret gets the vaccine wait one hour at the vets office and nothing wrong your good to go Pre treating really helps alot. Not only to the shows, but my ferrets get alot of people interaction outside the family/friends all the time so need to keep them current.

Yeah, there's no doubt how important it can be, especially when in public. I just have no need for it My girls don't go out in public places much. Mostly just my backyard and car rides.

lol I pretty much have enough cash to put in Two new ferrets. Out of the kids I posted, Which would you pick? Wheezy- she's a bit of a biter to be in companion. Not evil just playfull. Tulia- She's a sweet heart and if indeed more ferret than lee. She has a cute winter coat that is soft and pretty teeth. -.- Taz- His body is soo chubby. No..wait Dirt is chubby. Taz is just like pure muscle weight. The more I think of him the more I want to see what he does. Black's are sollid. He's definetly a sable but just..dark. That..is taz's color. Wheezy- He is soooooo ffatttt.. lol okay at this point Taz, Dirt, Lee, and ? may go. Jack- He's hefty. Pretty nice. But has less urmph than the rest. I think most people hold him and just saw, "awee he's so cutee.....oh I hate his eyes. "

Black Sable - the ferrets are not all solid in color there is a difference in that class on how they are judged (Black Sable and Black Sable Solid). For that class you have your standard black sable (like standard sable only more black in color and should have black nose but almost black or speckled OK).....and then you have your black solids (more solid in color with black nose). Although the standard black sable and the solid are judged fairly, you do see the black solids take more wins. So perhaps try the standard Sable with Taz.
If Taz is nice and solid, good muscle then you should enter him in companion for sure!
So based on what I see, I'd definitively show Taz in companion if he is so nice muscle mass. It looks like he'd fair better in sable instead of black sable. Jack your Albino, you say he's nice and hefty so I would show him in companion and also in albino! Albino/DEW is a smaller class compared to sable for example, so you've got more of a shot to win. If lelloo placed in companion for sure show her in that class again.
