Tonight I am going to try the kits with some chopped up quail. See how they do. Maybe if I sprinkle some kibble dust on it they will go for it? Huck will on occasion eat a chunk in his soup. But that doesn't happen too often. Usually he shakes his head and flings it as far away as possible. Maybe if I ground some chicken instead of bleding it, just add some chicken broth to it, maybe he'll try it that way. I'll try anyway and see.... atleast that would be the same consistancy of commercial ground.

It's definitely worth a try on both accounts. Have you tried the kits with just the quail without breading it? As far as Huck, it's as good an idea as any. Huck so reminds me of Yuri (and he's a huge pain ) ciao

Well the quail didn't go over so well with the kits. They didn't touch it. I'll try again tomorrow. Maybe smaller pieces and I will bread it. But Sid just stole a piece and took it. I don't know if he is eating it just yet. He tends to like his meat to sit out a day and then eats it when it is going a little hard for some reason. I'll go and check to see what he did with it in a minute. I'll be on holidays in a few months for a couple weeks. Then I am going to hit them hard with the raw switch. I postponed school. Can't afford it right now anyway. So we'll keep trying in the meantime. It just seems to be Huck holding things back. And I can't separate them, he is already out of sorts with the new kits taking over the bottom of the double wide fn142. So I have to leave kibble out for Huck all the time, he was very thin. So Sid has been eating kibble too. Grrr!!! He still eats his raw like a pro though, well he did just steal a quail leg. haha!! SO I don't think he will regress like Huck. Chicken wings tomorrow for breakfast, we'll see how they do with them. Huck is funny though, he knows it is food. I was watching him sniff the air to where the quail was, so it must atleast interest him a little bit.

I agree with the weird or strangeness of their attitude. Yuri would sooner starve to death than eat something he recognizes as food but doesn't want to eat. To be honest, Yuri is just really weird compared to any ferret I've ever dealt with. Most will eventually give in and eat. Yuri is eating but grudgingly. I always have to watch him, because he will just quit eating. I certainly can sympathize with you in regards to Huck. Unlike you there is no kibble in my house but we did cave into him a number of times and offer kibbles to him when he got too thin. ciao

I am trying something a little different with Huck. I know he loves his cooked soupy. So I have started adding the wysongs freeze dried stuff to it. Just a little tiny bit today, then I will VERY slowly start adding a little more and a little more. He is eating it right now. I seen him even chewing a few of the bigger pieces, I tried not to put any huge pieces in it though. I know it is not the same as real raw, but it is still better than kibbles I think. I'm just thinking of the texture being similar to real raw and getting him to eat that and maybe slowly adding real raw to it. Or my other idea is to add little slivers of raw to his cooked soupy, but I don't want to make him sick, or would that cause tummy problems?

I don't think adding some raw meat to his cooked soupy is going to give him a tummy upset other than not having bone or egg shell to prevent the liquid poos. See how he handles it. With Huck it's all trial and error. It has to be better than kibble. I would run with it and see what happens. Either way has got to be better than kibble and I can't see that adding little bits of raw to it is going to make any serious issues ciao

Well the kits eat everything I put down for them. Except bone so far. Huck is well he is Huck. What more can I say? I am up to 2 teaspoons of freeze dried raw in his cooked soup. So 5 heaping teaspoons cooked soup to 2 "raw". At first he wasn't too impressed, but not so bad now. I'm trying to put weight on the boy, but I guess that might not happen til fall now. He is holding strong at 2lb6oz, so that is good. He is still picking at the EVO ferret food, but like I say, still a million times better than what he would only eat before. Without trying to get him to go raw he would still be eating purina one. And trust me, I tried to get him off of that a million times. I caught Sid running off with a huge piece of the freeze dried, don't know where he got it as it was still dry. Little buggar. I must have dropped a piece on the floor or something.

You are making progress. If nothing else, you're getting so that you understand Huck, not what makes him tick but what he needs. He's maintaining weight, which is good...you've got him eating a better diet than he was, he's no longer loosing weight. Kudos to you. That is great. Your little ones are eating everything that isn't tied down ;D ;D ciao

I must say I am pretty proud of my boy Huck tonight. He ate his very first pinky mouse. I'll admit I had to scruff him to try it, but then he ate it all on his own after he got the first taste of it. He was looking for more. Indy and Sidney each got one too. I tried the babies, but all that happend was Sunny got blood all over his face. It was pretty cute though, as he was gagging. Shady just wanted to play with it. Maybe prey is the way to go with Huck. We'll see what he does tomorrow with his mouse.

Well I decided to try the raw soup with Huck again today. And he totally went for it. Even grabbing a larger chunk that didn't quite blend up and he went and hid and ate it all. I checked after he left his hiding spot. I am going to start him on a plate of raw soup everyday again until we are back at just the raw soup. Everyone else is enjoying the raw chicken soup and commercial ground venison. The kits enjoy the wysong freeze dried at night rehydrated, and they love their quail and chicken chunks. Not too keen on the commercial ground venison yet. I might try another protein to see if they eat that, like rabbit or something else. They will eat the quail wings and legs and seem to be eating the bone too. But not chicken bones yet,
