Just an update. Vet says that in her experience, and based off of one of the leading Lupron researchers, 3 months Lupron is not effective, and not worth the $. No word on the Des, we are still waiting. It is illegal to sell it to another vet, so she can't buy if off of a vet elsewhere if they did have it (not that I think anyone anywhere has any ). She is going to look into how much it would cost to have an adrenal panel done for me today. I'd hate to keep paying $100 a month if Koda doesn't actually have Adrenal...

www.vet.utk.edu/diagnostic/endocrinology/index.phpCost of the panel is $70, I think samples need to be overnighted on ice (probably expensive) and then you have the visit, exam, and procedure fees. Can't believe lupron is that expensive I hope DES. Becomes more widely available or it will really be sucky

Could we write the company ? Ask for discounts or tell them alot of animals well being depend on this ? I spend more on my pets health than my own.

I don't think it is the company that makes the lupron increasing the price(if that's what you mean). I think it's the conglomeration her vet belongs to who is doing that. Because to the best of my knowledge, our prices aren't going up like that here(fingers crossed, touch wood!). And our lupron would most likely come from the same company.

Speaking of, katt- if the other vet doesn't belong to the same group, why not ask them how much THEY charge for monthly lupron?

Speaking of, katt- if the other vet doesn't belong to the same group, why not ask them how much THEY charge for monthly lupron? I am considering that. But for it to be worthwhile, I would have to be sure that Koda's records and RX could be transferred otherwise I'd have to go through the whole exam, blood panel, etc again which would be way too expensive. As for the adrenal panel, I got a call back - it would cost $500.

Hi Everyone! I just found this site today and I hope you can help me.Meeko our male ferret is perhaps 6 years old (he`s a rescue so we`re not sure)He has insulinoma and is on meds for that.Recently he has been losing his hair. The vet my son took him to said this was normal with insulinoma.I was under the impression that this was an indication of an adrenal problem. This was not our regular vet...we moved and had to find another one. Please help if you can...Thanks!

Hair loss (to my knowledge) is not a problem with insulinoma - so you're most likely dealing with adrenal too I'd take him to your regular vet or a more experienced vet to take a look at him.

Normal treatments are monthly lupron or a des implant (lasts 6 months to a year). Costs will vary depending in your vet and area. You can also give melatonin in addition to either of those. I would make a thread in the medical section about this so you can get some more direct answers

All I had to do for records transfer is call the vet who I was seeing, and ask them to fax over the records to the new vet. I also had to give them the fax number. They can't tell you no on that one. Talk to the vet you are presently seeing(after finding out the price difference of course) and tell her the reason you've got to switch Koda to the new one. No reason you can't keep seeing her about other things.

IME the only lupron that has been effective for my Adrenal ferrets has been the monthly lupron. The deslorelin lasts approx 6 months. Sherry, the problem is that meds in the US are more expensive than Canada. This is why so many Americans drive to Canada to buy meds!

For human medications, yes. Those are subsidized. But animal meds?
