Thanks for that! I wasn't sure about frogs! Many of these items I wont be able as raw feeding is not common here. The pet store I go to has offered to give me young guinea pigs if they don't see. Up to me to kill them though :/

Like sherry, my kids enjoy whole prey of: mice of all ages, day old chicks and pullets, crickets, superworms, rat pups to medium rats, even bait fish, gold fish and minnows. I tried guinea pigs, but they squeal horribly. and since they are herbivores they have an incredibly large intestinal tract full of stuff ferrets aren't interested in eating, so they are quite messy to feed.
I still want to try offering them live craw fish. I have several snorklers that I think would have fun catching and eating these. Many of my guys like fish and shrimp so crawfish wouldn't be too big of a leap.
Cheers, Kim

Josiesmom, do you feed live fish? This is always something I've wanted to try. I'm not 100% sure on the chemicals they use in the water so I'm holding off.

I've found a supplier that will have frozen chicks available next Monday. I'm going to get some and see what happens.

I'm interested in the live fish... How do you do it? I have a ton of fish I bought as a treat for my Oscar who decided he is a vegetarian so the minnows and goldfish are celebrating birthdays now (some are close to two years in our tank ) I'd love to get rid of them! ~Kelli

Some like it- some don't! You can try putting a couple in a smaller clear dish(like a pie plate) to swim around. Put it on the floor, and see if he's interested in fishing.

My ferrets love catching fish goldfish! They will only eat a couple of them though. I am not sure if goldfish is a quality meal, or if the water chemicals they use are safe.
Here are my Fenton and Fiona catching fish, Fenton is pretty good at it.

I gave mine minnows once. Edgar was my best killer he crunched their skulls and stashed them.

Mikey Thats amazing! I'm so excited to try it now!!! Fenton is a little fishing machine, and I have to admit I cheered on Fiona when she finally caught the goldfish who kept hiding under her This spring when we hit the lakes again they can come with us anytime I don't know if Goldfish are a great meal for Ferrets, I know they are too fatty to feed to Oscars as more than a treat. The high fat concentration shouldn't bother a ferret tho. The water that the goldfish comes in is disgusting and harbors a lot of pathogens and chemicals. Goldfish are hearty enough to dump into clean tap water tho if the temp is close enough. In a perfect world I'd try to flush their systems in clean tap water for at least a day before feeding them just to get rid of all that crap. Today is Loki's water play day normally. Can't wait to add some minnows into it! Even if he doesn't eat them what a cool enrichment activity ~Kelli

I'ma give my two ferrets a present for Christmas today. Mika I don't think will kill a mouse, but maybe eat some of it (probably not though). Sarah I do think will kill and eat it so I'm gonna give it a try.
I'll have to give the fish a try later next week too. Is a bathtub full of water too hard for them to catch fish in?

I think with a bathtub, the problem may not be difficulty, but willingness and/or interest. My ferrets showed no interest in catching fish when I tried doing it in a bathtub. Maybe because they couldn't get out of the water, or because they associate with bath time which they don't really like, I don't know.
I tried the bathtub first and it didn't work, then I tried the dish of water, and after that worked, I tried the bathtub again, and again they wouldn't pay any attention to the fish, so I tried the dish and it worked again. So I conclude my ferrets refuse to fish in a tub ;D

They don't like to fish in tubs because they can't stash their kills where they would like.
