New to the forum so please forgive formatting! Have a year old EU hob, have no other polecats or ferrets. This will be his first winter (UK). His behaviour is mostly playful and he's loads of fun however he's started to pee smear and is becoming a little more bitey. He tried to lead me by my hand behind the sofa and I doubt it was to see his stash! Usually pop them to the vets for an implant, he's never going to father kits! Any problems health wise for keeping him intact? Having to find a new vet that doesn't sedate while they implant.

I've had a vet that uses gas to do implants but most I've been to don't. Stick it in and maybe some dermabond to seal the wound. I've personally implanted ferratonin (melatonin) implants without. At my new job I've implanted several microchips in cats, and I can tell you that ferret skin is tougher, but they get over the implant very quickly.
I've never had a real poley, and only one private bred late alter ferret. From what I have seen on various forums, I would prefer to keep a poley intact, and even domestic ferrets, but that's not really an option this side of the pond. My one late alter still developed at least 2 of The Big 3 and passed just past 6 years old. Jaffa was brilliant, one of my favorites.
I say chemical castration is preferable to surgery.
