Hello, You may have seen from my other post I have been looking to rescue a friend for my single female ferret. I tried a male from one of my friends but it wasn't a good match and the owner decided he was best where he was. I went to my local shelter last week and I picked up a little girl called daisy, she is between 6 months and a year, my original girl is between 1 year and 1 and a half years. She has been with us 1 week now, she is great. For the first 3 days I just swapped blankets etc and let them sniff through cages. The next few days I let them out together, Lola is very interested in following her around, few poofs on the first meeting, and a lot of loud noise but no action, I continued to monitor 20 minute sessions twice a day for the next couple of days. When they are both heading to a corner area I normally pick one up and move them as don't want them in a small area and feeling backed up, today's session I just let them do what they would do. They both climbed in to my original ferrets bed and there was lots of rolling around and low ferret dook noises with a couple of high pitch ones, looks like they were mouthing with each other but I don't think hard? No pee or poo etc and when my girl left the bed her tail wasn't bushy. I let this go on for 5 minutes, I hope this was the right choice! I have attached the video, if you put on loud you can hear the noises and see some interactions, is this all good progress? Is it positive or negative? I really hope they become friends!! It's only been 7 days so still early but I hope I done the right thing to let them roll around. Any advice would be great. Also something interesting, the girl I have just rehomed was found as a stray up a mountain! photos.app.goo.gl/NUgEkhaZd4svcg967

Well, you should’ve kept them separated (including their belongings) for at least a week to make sure the new one didn’t have any communicable illness, but the interactions look good. Ferrets bite and chase each other, it’s just what they do. Good luck! You say poof, so I guess you’re from a place that doesn’t descent them? Interesting that the rescue was found on a mountain, I guess somebody threw her up there thinking polecats make do. Sad.

Yes I'm from the UK, I think transferable illnesses are much less common here, doesn't seem to be an issue, the countries leading animal charity have had the rescue for weeks with no signs of illness, they have an isolation area for it specifically so all good with the timeline from there recommendations. Anyways, that's good to hear that the meeting was positive, I'll do another session this evening and monitor closely, thank you ☺️

lots of excited dooking but i don't see any scary or aggressive behaviors. Sounds like happy ferrets getting to know each other. I hope all goes well. It's possible you have an escapee that was found while still healthy. On this side of the Pond, ferrets don't have a very long life expectancy in the wild. I love the sound of happy ferrets.

Just to give an update, they are now best friends! Didn't take long at all I can't believe it. They are always sleeping together, and today was the first time they were war dancing together! I'm one happy ferret mum, I really wanted Lola to have a friend, and the new addition has been a perfect match ☺️ photos.app.goo.gl/XS1yw4FaQoLkH54E7

That was a very good video of them interacting. Yay!! When I saw it I knew they were hitting it off well. Then I read your next post. That friendship developed well and quickly. So sweet.

It's rare when a ferret cannot stand another ferret. I've seen it a couple times. But generally, like kats, they will adjust to newcomers and become friends. Even if just to plot how to infuriate their hoomans, lol
Love my katsnferts
