Hi all! Sorry I been gone for awhile, everything has been going very well for me and the boys (Aron & Sean).
I noticed that when I was away from town I stopped by a local Petco just to see how much they are charging for ferrets these days and wow, they've really gone up, have they? The closest one by me was selling them for over 350 now. I remember less than 2 years ago they were 250 and back before then then were anywhere between 75 and 140. In a way, this is good, because it helps prevent impulse buying by adults for their kids who have no idea what they're getting into but also it means they will not be sold as quickly, or none at all in this economy. Those that aren't sold within the window are often sold to labs for testing.
Something tells me there is something more going on with them lately than I know about. A lot has been going on lately and none of it good.
On the bright side, the guys are happy and healthy. I lost my original pet food supplier due to expensive shipping, but I found another (rawpawpetfood) that has free shipping on large orders and they pack it rock solid with dry ice.
Here's a recent video of Aron and Sean playing.

I suspect a lot more of them are being sold to labs nowadays for covid testing, unfortunately. Mustelids are susceptible to it. Good to know yours are doing well!

It's a fallacy that pet ferrets unsold end up at labs. Medical research requires very strict conditions of the animal rearing and what they are or are not exposed to, so once they leave the breeding facility, they are no longer viable research models. Research model animals are specific breeding colonies separate from the pet breeding colonies.

Hey Lyles. So good to hear from you! Your babies are precious. My Abbey would wag her tail too. So interesting to watch them do it and listen to their tails popping the side of things. My abbey would do it in a long narrow box that I bought at UPS store. All my babies are gone now. I have been taking care of about 6 feral cats. They come up on my porch morning and night for their meals. I will have to take a pic of them sometime and post it here. Again, glad to hear from you.

I am in NE Tennessee and ferrets aren't as common here as they were in FL, but, the stores where I got Lilly and Scamp had none the last time I visited them. The store where I got Scamp, an aquatic store, only had 1 or 2 at a time, because the owner's daughter likes them. The other store sells exotics, and the owner there said they were hard to get at the time, about 5 months ago. I haven't seen a ferret in a store here in a while. There was a pet store in town that sold ferrets but they got shut down for sanitation reasons just before covid hit. If I wanted to get a ferret now my best bet would probably be craigslist.

One of the mail carriers came by today and saw Aron at the door, she said she had one at home too and that she got it at a rescue. It was a surprise to find another ferret owner out where I live, so that was nice.
