Hello everyone, I haven't been active in a while but today I come to announce the passing of my sweet Poe boy he was 3-4.
I am devastated.
I'm not sure what happened. I didn't realize something was wrong, he seemed fine and then all of a sudden he went from fine to stressed to lethargic to gone by the time we got to the vet. It was so sudden and I'm just at a loss knowing he's just gone now and I was able to do so little.
The other ferrets didn't even get to say goodbye, I rushed to the vet hoping something could be done. I live in an apartment so a burial wasn't an option, and there's no room in the freezer to maintain the body so I figured leaving him eith the vet was better at the time. Now I feel extremely guilty they won't know what happened to him. I left the carrier he was in out for a bit but I assume that's not enough. They don't seem to notice he's gone so far or at least not distraught, I am concerned for both them and myself as I am not handling this well at all. I have some Bach on the way in case they start to notice.
Thank you to everyone that has helped me over the years, thanks to you I was able to give him a better life than most ferrets get or at least I like to think so.

I really sorry for your loss. I've been there too many times. all you can do for your other little ones is watch them for signs of depression and give them all the attention you can. Ferrets are very resilient. It's just too sad that they are no so resilient physically. Most vets offer cremation services so at least you can bring home their ashes. I have 9 little wooden boxes ion my shelf. I owned a home in Florida where 6 more are buried, and 2 more at another home. I made pawprint plaques of a few before they passed but they are so fragile if not properly protected. When my kat, Precious, was pts a couple months ago, the vet gave me a pawprint keepsake that is framed. It was so nice of them to do that. That is really nice of them, the closest emergency exotic vet to me isn't exactly known for charitable acts. I did get him cremated though with i'm assuming will be a small urn. I plan to decorate the urn myself, or maybe get something done with the ashes at a later date.
The business so far seems to be okay, everyone's been eating, I think they have looked for him to cuddle a couple of times but not frantically. I still have 3 all together now so hopefully we can all lean on each other and adjust.

I’m sorry to hear this, rest in peace little guy. It sucks the most when you don’t understand why. May you all comfort each other.

raven That is a beautiful avatar pic. Could you post a larger one? I am blessed to have a wonderful e-vet practice just 5 miles form here. One of my late fuzzies managed to rip out a front claw and they did a great job patching him up. AND they do not charge outrageous fees. They are pretty close in fees for an office visit with my regular ferret vet. IMG_3298 by unclejoe1158, on Flickr I hope your guys are ok.

unclejoe Thank you! I had to dig in the archive for it. This is one of the first of many photos I took of my first girlies Usagi and Akira (still living), I got my boys Poe and Dali a couple years later. I am jealous while generally nice or at least professional after proving i'm not recklessly raw feeding lol, all my exotic vets are fairly pricey, I haven't really been able to build much of a relationship with any of them over the years. Poor kiddo DIP, he looks just like Usagi. We're holding up, I was very worried about Usagi she was rather close to Poe, she barely left their cage the past 2 days but she's been more lively today and everyone's eating.
