Hello all! I'm Veronica and I'm new to the forums and the proud owner of two adolescent ferrets named Edward and Alphonse, and just wanted some advice. I was prepared to buy my ferrets a 3 tiered cage, get the hammocks, the slings, all of that. I've done a lot of research (About a years worth) and still bought them all of those things, but petco ended up convincing me ( I know -___-) to get them a one tiered "rabbit" enclosure. They asked questions which I answered honestly, such as how much time they would spend out of the enclosure, how much we would engage with them, etc. I told them they would always be out for two 2 hour play sessions everyday and they said I was just wasting my money on the three tiered enclosure as they would be out enough of the day anyways. I honestly was sketched out but they seemed like they knew what they were talking about. As they grow larger I'm feeling I've made a mistake, and was kind of "douped" even though I had done my research. Not only that, but why shouldnt they have more space vertically even when they are not out of the cage and playing (supervised) around the room? Should I just cop the loss and buy the three tiered cage for my ferrets happiness and wellbeing? And if so, does anyone have recommendations for the best ferret cages for 2 boys? Price isnt an issue, I think I just got "salesman'd." Thanks so much everyone!

Hi Veroica. While it wasn't Petco, I got my first ferret at a smaller chain pet store, and the first 2 cages I bought there were entirely inadequate for one ferret, but I quickly ended up with 5! I also bought a few marshall ferret products that were completely unnecessary. I did only a couple hors research after seeing Bella alone in that store and after some time I went back to that store to explain to them some of the things they were doing wrong to care for their ferrets, and while they did make a couple changes, they said that ferrets usually got sold in a week or two. So anyway, most people here recommend Ferret Nation cages, or Critter Nation. The difference is the arrangement of the bars. Both work well for ferts. Don't let this happen to your fursnakes!! They prefer not to be so exposed without it and they like dark. i.postimg.cc/mkvYCM0C/Cage.jpg

Ferret Nation-definitely. I kept a dark sheet on mine, at least covering the top section. Do get the vertical bar arrangement--- the Ferret Nation not Critter Nation if available. The horizontal bars are too easy to climb. You will find ferrets on top of the cage with that one. little things you can do outside of cage.
