Hi everyone, I adopted 2 ferrets in Jan. that needed a new home. Max, 15 months, male black and white and Mia, 17 months, female champagne color. I've cared for all kinds of animals but this is my first time with ferrets. When I got them Max was underweight and weighed less than Mia. I have them on all raw now and they are thriving. I have a strong bond with both, but especially Max. He wants my attention all the time and follows me all around the house. I work from home so the only time they are in their cage is when I am asleep. Otherwise they'd keep me up all night!
Mia is an angel. She never bites, almost always goes to the bathroom where she is supposed to. She's the thief
Max, is...a young male. I love him to pieces but he is a bit of a challenge. I'd say he goes to the bathroom where he is supposed to about 80% of the time. And, he bites. Not hard enough to break the skin but always where the skin is the most tender. Behind the knee, inside of the arm. He bites when he wants my attention like when I'm cooking or doing dishes. He 100% knows "no biting" and mainly he'll stop but sometimes he won't take no for an answer. The best solution I've found so far is putting him in "time out". Then he'll be good...for a while. That being said he is Much better than when I first got him. I'd like to believe he will grow out of this. At least, I really hope so.
To keep Max from going to the bathroom all over the house, at first, I got those clear ferret tunnels and made a ferret super highway all along the baseboards in the house. They love it! Their current favorite thing is me turning on the shower in my walk-in shower and they go crazy!!! They run around in the water then all over the house, lol.
If I'm in the bathroom they'll (especially Mia) stand by the shower door waiting for me to let them in and turn on the water.
My ferrets will practically kill for Emu oil! If they are turning their noses up at something new I've given them to eat all I have to do it put Emu oil on it and they will gobble it up. They also get an Emu oil massage weekly with a few drops of vanilla extract in it. They smell yummy. Seriously, Mia smells like perfume. Max is slightly muskier.
There are also 2 cats in my home, Mas and Ming. They tolerate the ferrets and will bump heads with them marking the ferrets as theirs. Mas will play with them occasionally but when the ferrets get over excited and want to bite he runs away. The cats have never been aggressive with the ferrets. Mas loves to be groomed but Ming doesn't want to do it. Sometimes the ferrets will lick him on the head and he is in heaven. I tried putting Emu oil on his head so the ferrets would lick him a lot but Mas doesn't like the smell or something.
Oh, Max's favorite store is Lowe's. He LOVES going there and he gets tons of attention whenever we are in there.
Thanks for reading!
(I tried to attach photos but don't know if they will upload. If they don't could someone let me know how to get them on here?)
