"Rapidly cooling the pet is extremely important. While ice or cold water may seem logical, its use is not advised. Cooling the innermost structures of the body will actually be delayed, as ice or cold water will cause superficial blood vessels to shrink, effectively forming an insulating layer of tissue to hold the heat inside. Cool tap water is more suitable for effective cooling."
I found this on a website for dogs (mission pawsible)... who would've known.

thermal shock is a thing. def want to reduce heat more gradually. I once took 3 ferrets to an outdoor meet and greet at the local animal shelter in FL. They had a fan on their cage. When they started panting, I put them in the van and turned on the ac while I packed the small stuff then went straight home. I left the canopy and table till the next day. Temp was 94, but they had all been in that heat before, just not for so long. All were fine. No bath needed.
