One of my ferrets, Soba, seems to obsessively chew on his blanket every time he settles down to sleep. He usually will get under the blanket, push it over to the corner of the pan or to the ramp, and just have the time of his life chewing the pan/ramp through the blanket for a while before he sleeps. He chews so hard that it makes this horrible sound that jolts me awake if I'm also settling down to sleep. I've never found any holes at all in their blankets when I wash them, and hes not doing it as a form of cage rage or boredom, he does it when he voluntarily goes back to his cage to nap.
My ferrets love their fluffy fleece blankets, you know those super soft ones, but I've been worried that chewing on those soft ones may be harmful to him? I don't know whether I should switch back to thin cotton for a while and hope the chewing goes away just to be sure he doesn't somehow eat the fluff off the fleece??
He's a few months over 1 year old, raw fed, and I got him when he was 12 weeks and already on solid food and more than happy to chow down on rmb. Does anyone know what could be causing this or the best way to curb the behaviour? Should I just.. Wake him up and try to get him to chew on some snacks instead? Remove blankets entirely? I'm a little lost here haha

Sean was like that when I first got him, he was only 4-5 weeks old. He quickly grew out of it. Try washing the blankets more often, they might have a smell he could be identifying as food. Try other soaps when you do to see if he loses interest. You can try temporarily removing them for a week or two and then putting them back to see if his obsession goes away. Finally, you can put something near his bed that he might find more pleasent chewing, like dehydrated ducks feet.
