My ferret has suddenly lost a lot of weight. He's always been borderline fat but he's suddenly ribby. I've been a bit preoccupied this week and haven't been paying as close attention as I should. I last weighed him March 14 and he weighed 3.14 today he was 2.28. He's alert but has no energy and seems week in the back end. He walks a bit then has to catch his breath. He also keeps acting like he needs to puke and has coughed up a bit of flem/water? He sort of ate the treats I offered. He's 2. His brother's seem fine. I don't know what to do. No vets are open on the weekend and most of them won't take new clients anyways.

I would get him to a vet ASAP for glucose test. It sounds like it could be insulinoma. My first case was discovered due to loss of weight and appetite. Others have not been so fortunate, and i know of a couple whose first signs were seizures from which the fuzzies didn't recover. It was only after that the ferrants realized they had noticed other signs but didn't know they were important.
