Good evening, I've had ferrets 5 years and never have I ever had to do the blockage protocol until today. How do you know if it worked? What if the suspected object consumed is found in the poo?
My ferret is acting normal, playful, drinking, eating, pooing, etc. We are 3 hours into the protocol and she has passed 4 poos. All showing foam from the suspected object. No discomfort or pain signs. Poo size back to normal but was initially smaller before passing bits of the object, no blood, and no mucus.

Did you give pumpkin to your ferret? If you see the pumpkin come through then you know the blockage moved through, if there was one. Yes, definitely look in the poop to make sure the object has passed through as well. Definitely keep an eye on the ferret the next little while too.

what was eaten? Is there any way to estimate sizeof object eaten vs what was pooped? Normal poos is a good sign, and as charlie said, you will know when the pumpkin passes. hope she's ok

Heather gave me the suggestion to get a barium xray on my ferret who got into my silk plant ---did not know it was anchored down with styrofoam as it had decorated moss all over it. That is another thing you can do. My vet was nonchalant about it and while no styrofoam came out as he mainly just tore it to shreds, he did have some hair balls and a human hair pass. You got to be your own advocate sometimes. just press them anyway when they pooh pooh your ideas. With Barium Xray, the pooh will come out like white caulking---I can see how they say it can push things out. So continue to give some pumpkin for a couple days after protocol. (Any toys with styrofoam beads throw away) Hope your little one does ok. holisticferretforum.com/health/emergencies/blockages/blockage-protocol/
