Hey everyone! I'm looking to set up a second cage/home for my ferret at my work so I can take him with me most days. 1. Is there any reason I should avoid doing this? 2. Is it okay for them to have a second "home"? 3. Should they be as similar as possible or completely different? Thank you for your advice!

Personally, I feel if your ferret is free roam at home and would have to be locked up almost every day at your work, it would not be too good. Should it come to just occasional visit at job, I would provide nothing less than this Ferret Nation single. www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/midwest-ferret-nation-single-unit-with-stand-ferret-cageStill, your ferret would deserve some free time in your office or wherever your personal space might be. I read about a teacher who wanted a ferret for her class. I thought ferrets are not fish in aquarium to just look at--she would have to give it vaccinations yearly(N Carolina law) and if the ferret bit a kid well--in North Carolina that ferret would be quarantined ---vaccinated or not. I let her know the downs on having a ferret for class. Besides, ferrets are smart and need stimulation--like I tell people, to me--- it is like putting a kitten in a cage. Mine are ready to roam in mornings, lunch time and evenings (near dusk) although they sleep a lot. Even though it is law in North Carolina to vaccinate ferrets yearly---I just do not do it, and mine stay home.

it depends on your work environment. I have found most of my 30 ferrets to be pretty adaptable short term as in an 800 mile move to a new house, but none have really "commuted." As abbey said, a good size cage or playpen at minimum in the "office" setting, with litter box, food, water, and a dark place to sleep, etc. Ferrets generally sleep most of the day, but I've had a few, mostly males, that will scratch tirelessly at the cage if they wake up, so you need to consider if that will be a distraction.

It will depend on your work environment. Is it real quiet or really noisy? What is your work schedule like? Ferrets are mostly active during dust and dawn and will sleep most of the day. Will you be able to attend to your ferret if it's awake during work? I don't think having a similar home is as important as having a dark space to sleep, food and water and if your ferret has enough space to roam around in and play, if the ferret is awake to play, and his bedding that smells like home. Is the space safe and free of anything harmful if your ferret will be out to roam around?
