i just noticed moose having some loose BMs. not wholly liquid yet but getting there. i gave him less than a teaspoon of canned pumpkin about fifteen minutes ago hoping it might help solidify things and soothe his stomach. he doesn’t appear to be dehydrated but may be a little lethargic.
at what point do i need to reach out to his vet? i am four hours away, they are not open on sundays, and i work M-F during their operating hours.
he is a kibble fed ferret with some store-bought freeze dried meats as treats. are there any other “home remedies” besides pumpkin that might help alleviate the diarrhea?

also - does anyone here have their ferret on famotidine? can diarrhea be a side effect in ferrets? i know for humans there really are none for pepcide, and my vet didn’t warn me about any when he prescribed it for moose. it’s the only thing different in his routine.

So is there something you think that does not agree with him? Is he on a raw diet? I did have a ferret take pepcid the low dose one, but my vet prescribed it, as my girl had ulcers in her throat---probably from chicken(IBS). That is why I have my ferrets on as much mice and rats as i can give them---the fur is excellent to help stool. she had me break off just a pinch like if you could cut the tiny pill n 4ths and maybe even smaller---but i would let vet prescribe it. She told me a sliver.
unfortunately, he won’t touch anything raw outside of freeze dried treats and egg. he is kibble fed a mixture of zupreem grain free and young again zero. the pumpkin worked great that one night. nice, solid poops. but now it’s back to a more liquid form (not completely) and the BMs are smaller in size. i might give him some more pumpkin tomorrow if it’s any worse.
i can’t think of anything he might’ve gotten into that would’ve upset his stomach.

My boy gets lose stool a lot and the vet that treats the ferrets from Petco said mine needed roughage. He does great when he eats mice(I do gut them for him). Anyway, I give him 4-5 meals of that a week.
Is any of the kibble new to him? If you withheld one brand for a few days then the other---maybe you could tell if that is it???
