I did see someone who said they put dryer hose in between and behind something they didn't want their ferrets to go behind and instead they used the tunnels, so I might try that. Although hubby went to Home Depot today to find some and said he couldn't find any. He found out the stuff was a fire hazard and not up to building code anymore around here so not sold anymore? Any of you other MA or New England people on here find any?

As for putting hose in behind your fridge, I don't know about yours, but ours is open part way up(about a foot). Way past where the tubing would go, plus it has elements and wires on the back of it. If you've got one of the enclosed ones, it might work. Next time he goes to Home Depot, tell him to check for black drainage tubing. You can usually get it in 10' lengths.

Ours are completely enclosed. All the stuff is inside the machine, but I still worry lol.
Drainage tubing...good idea. We'll look for that, thanks!

I guess I must have good luck with the collars. my 5 kids don't mess with their collars. only time they came off is when they were to big for them. I put mine so they will fit over their head so they will come off in case of an emergency.

If you aren't able to make an awesome gate yourself, these commercial ones are my favourite - they're solid, clear and they expand very wide and fit almost any doorway, and they snap tight. My ferrets haven't learned to scale them yet, and I bought them used off another ferret owner who used them for her ferret for quite some time and hers was never able to climb them either. www.safety1st.com/usa/eng/Products/Home-Safety/Gates/Details/448-41824-Perfect-Fit-Gate

Those are good gates! I've got two of them. Only one of my ferrets ever learned how to get over them- Boris

Ha ha that's funny. I have 2 of those gates already! It's been a while since I took them down after my "baby" (now 4.5) could climb over them But if I remember correctly there were spaces between each side and the bottom when we had them up. I don't know if they were big enough spaces for the ferrets to squeeze through. I can't believe how FLAT they can get if they want to get under something! LOL

If you are talking about that little gap at the bottom, a couple of my girls were able to force themselves through when they were 5 or 6 months old, but not since. Now they can only jam their noses through, but often don't, since whoever is on the other side is likely to try to drag them through by that appendage

Owie! lol Yes well mine ARE 7-8 months old. Ron is just starting to become porky enough to maybe not fit under but Ginny probably still would fit for now. It's not so bad guarding them now, but I would definitely love a ferret room. Hopefully by the fall

Hey- guarding against that small gap is definitely going to be easier than guarding an entire doorway!
