Hi there guys!
So, as some may already be able to tell by my posts, I've been having questions about young ferret behavior and such. The ferrets I've had in the past were 6 months+ when I adopted them, so having a younger ferret is definitely a new and slightly different experience for me.
This baby is about 3 months now, and has already been transitioned to a raw diet. He eats *a lot* and is always *very* excited to scramble into his food den. He'll run around following me when he knows I'm preparing his food (which is sort of cute) and is not aggressive toward me, just very, very excited. This doesn't seem like a problem, but I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this type of behavior before and if so, if anyone knows if it should be a concern for behavior down the road. I'm thinking that maybe once he's older, a little calmer, and not so incredibly hungry, he'll be less food-crazed?
The other scenario I'm wondering about is something that occurred last night. Previously I had noted aggression over chewing on/putting holes in his litter bag (which has since been resolved) and he would hiss and squeak loudly at me if I touched him. This time (last night) he found an object that was not a toy but probably looked like one to him. Our cat had likely knocked it off a desk, so the baby grabbed it and was running around with it, chewing on it, etc.
Anyway, I picked him up to remove the object (slowly and gently) and he immediately did the loud squeak and thrashed when I picked him up. He did that repeatedly and hissed at me. He did let go of the object after a moment (I can't remember if he let go before or after I put him down), and seemed fine after that. He didn't bite me or anything, he just seemed somewhat aggressive over that.
Should I be worried when I see this type of behavior? Is it something he will grow out of, or is it something that requires a disciplinary action? If I do need to discipline when he behaves this way, what is the best way to go about it? The sin bin has not seemed very successful based on the last time we tried to use it.
What do you guys think?
Sorry for the long post, but thank you so much in advance! You guys are all very helpful and I really appreciate it (:
